It's been in development for over a decade. While not the first game to take this long to make, it's become a highly polarized project. I'd love to see it succeed but it still has a long way to go. Share your thoughts below.

Never heard of it 🤨

I'm not too close to star citation as I've never played it myself but everything I've watched and read about just screams scam it's raised 732,445,102 and like you said it's been developed for over a decade and what it has to show for it does not make sense for how much money it's gotten

I'm not sure about the scam (but the burned smell is quite strong), but what I'm sure about is that it has become kind of a joke in te gaming community.

i think it's just a project that got too big for its own good.

i don't think it was intentionally a scam, but it did spiral into that. it's just that it had no chance to keep up with the expectations for it

Many many years ago I gave them $500. At this point I dont expect any ROI. It's a joke.

I don't think it's a scam, or at least I would like to believe it isn't. However they definitely bit more than they could chew. The raised money must be long gone, which is why Squadron must be a success to further support SC. Unfortunately I don't think it will be enough. They are branching far far away with all the physical inventory, ship components, etc. and yet they have no fully functional foundation to run it all. The server meshing is a feat on its own, but even if their servers could support tens of thousands of people in one location, the player's machines definitely won't. No matter how much they'll optimize it, when some Bob there runs i5 and gtx660 from 12 years ago (exaggeration, but the point is still valid).

I believe that it is 100% a scam. There is no way anyone can justify the amount of micro transactions that game shoves down it's players throats.

I think it started with good intetntions. But too much money and no control are a horrible combination.

Played it a bit about 2 years ago, got a bit overwhelmed with all the invites to join guilds and stuff. I saw it was still in development and really wasn't interested in investing time into it since it seems to demand quite a bit. Decided to chill and wait.

it's a redefined scope creep.
i don't think it's a scam tho, just look at the current crypto slop that people release and raise money for...at least star citizen has decent amount of effort put into it...

I don't think it's a scam at all, on the contrary it's a pretty great game for what it is. :) And the tech they developed doing it will go into Squadron 42 which I think will be fantastic.

Indeed. At this point I'm more interested in how will the Squadron 42 turn out. SC has still a long way to go.

To me it feels like Star Citizen is the "lab" where the new tech is tested, and Squadron 42 is closer to the game they actually wanted to make. Have you seen the new gameplay trailer? It's like a full length movie :D

Yep it looked absolutely amazing, shame we have to wait another 2 years for it, but I guess that's better than to have another KSP2 on our hands.

I was really impressed by first Star Citizen gameplay trailer 8 years ago, turns out good trailer doesn't mean good game. But hey, let's hope for the better, maybe i'm just salty cause my investment into SC didn't pay off

Wild expanding dream suddenly got all the money it needed only to realize it needed skill, tech and time that could not be bought. Only to find out all they achieved is getting dated fast.

My nephew wanted it, so I broke down and bought two $45 packs for him and myself. The game played like shit.

I loved Privateer and Freelancer, so I had faith.

I vote, scam though.

if scope creep was a game it'd be star citizen. i think it will eventually be something great but by that time we might actually be flying in space
