For now, mime and apollo have full control over LC and will be handling site decisions going forward. I’m stepping back from making site changes for now and letting them decide how to move LC forward. - Jack Of Blades

I have a vpn and a solid AV so I just keep the ads on to support Kav. It's giving me super generic ads so I don't really mind. Meanwhile I cough while scrolling on instagram and immediatley see an ad for theraflu...

No...but you can take it and shove it up your ass.

Jerk.
Didn't realize you're female. Makes the gif even funnier. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

In that case, I'd like to say...

I had this problem too but I just close it down and do regular virus scans
It seems fine for now

You guys do realize, that for something to happen you need to click on the add or at least download something? An add on it's own, can't give you a virus.

Yes but I always like to be cautious. I got hacked on an account years ago and it's not fun. Even if its just for my peace of mind I always do a scan if something suspicious pops up

The ADs don't bother me too much, other than occasionally when I click a link a new tab will open to that link and the original tab I was on will switch to a full page AD for some site, I just close the new tab and click the back arrow on the original tab, then when I click the link again it works fine.

nowadays without advertising it is difficult to keep things alive. Prime Netflix Disney etc... includes advertising at the base otherwise you have to pay for a version without advertising. They are more, I think, for profitability whereas here it is perhaps more for a question of survival or even life of the site.

I guess kav got desperate and isn't being too picky with ad providers. shame.
No I'm just not home to disable it cause it happens to me aswell but I'll be home today to disable that shit

Banner ads are fine, I can whitelist once they're in place

The type of ad matters. That's what's got the people I've seen being vocal about it, vocal.

There are ads and then there's the popup/redirect/etcetc bs that plagues some ad providers, some of which include malware or other threats.

This ^

I have no problem supporting a website i like through turning off my ad blocker. However intusive ads, ones that cover half the screen, or worse ones like those that create popups, redirects or copy your biscuits, are an automatic block for me. I dont care what site you are.

Are there ones that do that?

It's simple. Just close the ad when it opens. Problem solved. Ads are everywhere. Ads are necessary for income. No way around it

There was one that tried to open another website tab, but my browser killed it. I have not seen it since, but i think it happened twice. I cant help with which one it was, as the browser just gives a warning screen after killing the redirect.

I fixed that already

Could you have accidentally clicked on the ad? That would open another tab every time but I've never encountered it happening on it's own. I've noticed some ads are invisible with just an 'x' to close the ad next to them, either at the bottom middle or bottom right of the screen They used to get in the way resulting in accidental clicks when I was trying to react to a comment but ceased to be a problem after I became aware of it

EDIT: Nevermind, just saw @Kavinsky comment above (y)

Great. Then i'll white list the site again.

I also think banner ads are fine, though sometimes they are so annoying

Problem is some places ads come from don't give a choice. The redirect type are the worst sort - and ones with sound (hadn't seen those sort lately anywhere.)

Malware makers buy ad impressions in the ad exchanges, then try to infect as many as possible. This phenomenon is old and impacted even very large, popular and "legit" websites. It's not that you necessarily need to click something on the porn site to get infected.

See: .

I mean, the chance for this happening is low and your *best* defense is to use a safe web browser (like chromium on Linux/Windows or Vanadium on Android) and update your operating system.
