It's one reason I filter "blackmail" out. It tends to ruin games period, but I hate the ones where the FMC gets raped, blackmailed, etc.

I never paid attention until very recently, when I downloaded a game where you play as a female and caught me off gaurd, they're very rare.

For non-adult games, I'm not picky about what sex the protagonist is (an exception is choice-based RPG's like Baldur's Gate). In 18+ games, I exclusively play games where there is an MC.

Extremely rarely. With a good nude mod and the likes in games like Skyrim I can play as a female, but in all* other games I play as a male.

It depends on the type of game.

In RPGs and such I'll usually switch it up. I'm playing a different character, usually one that has a few pre-written choices, so it's not like I can fully recreate myself anyway. Sometimes I'll use the female character more often if I like the voice actor's performance better, like with Jennifer Hale in the Mass Effect trilogy.

In more sandbox games and management games, etc, I basically just play as myself.

In MMOs I use a female avatar more often because horny dudes are more likely to give me free loot if I ask

With adult games I usually play as a male MC because I am one and it's more accurate to my sexual proclivities

Very rarely. It has to compensate in other areas such as really good written characters, and include some of my favorite fetishes to consider playing it. For example, Healslut, I didn´t mind the character being a female (mostly), because it had other things that made up for it.
