A good 90% of the time I'll play a normie game as a man, as I don't want to stare at a woman's behind for the entire game. Players assume I'm also a guy, but I don't mind that. One female character I didn't mind playing was Bayonetta, since she was just a fun character. With NSFW games specifically I'd probably play as a woman (I tend to only make not play them), so I could better immerse myself in it.

Well you know what they say about exploring your feminine side. I like to vary it up when given the option, but tend to optimize the fun out of it by picking whichever option has more content. That's why futa protags are goated: I can have my cake and eat it too.

When I was younger I only really remember a couple of games where I played as a woman but recently I've stumbled upon a lot more really good ones. I think it's interesting to shake things up now and then since the cutscenes are usually just straight sex anyway. What are some times you guys have tried it and what are some recommendations for anyone unacquainted? Open to ladies who play as guys too of course but I have a feeling that's nearly all of you just due to the amount of games produced with female protagonists at all.

I used to hate gender swapping until Mount and Blade made me do it for achievements. My proud ego wasn't defending anything, there are no changes in gameplay (in most of the games anyway)

In non-lewd games, if it's first person I want to play as a man, and if it's third person I want to look at a woman. If I'm playing a game as a female character and it has romance options available, there better be yuri options or I'm probably skipping romance entirely. The exception is if I can see myself in the love interest's shoes. Then it's like she's seducing me, just seen from her perspective, which is still fun for me.

In lewd games I usually prefer male characters as I fantasize about doing those things. Female characters can be interesting too, but again I'm focusing on seducing other ladies and only having her get with men I can see myself as. If a game forces me into a sexual situation with a man I can't see myself as, I really lose interest in the game.
