Depend of the game, I don't have a preference. Sometimes playing as the opposite sex is more fun, diferents reactions, and diferents choices.

Rarely if ever. If there is multiple prot tag, it can work. But that's hardly ever the case.

Quite often, it started after many hours playing Skyrim and deciding I would much rather follow a female ass running down the road. With all the mods, playing as female was more entertaining. Now any game I can, I play as female.

Only when limited by the game and the game is good. Otherwise, many games with female centric themes just turn me off. The rare exception is when a man writes a woman/girl poorly and feeds into common tropes and stereotypes that feed into the male fantasy. Then, maybe.

I don't stop playing the game because of the MC's sex/gender. As long as the game is good or interests me (it doesn't have to be good to catch my interest) I'll play it.

I most of the times play as Male because otherwise it breaks somehow immersion. When I play games I like to try and immerse myself as much as possible into the game, as if I was the MC. An example would be V from Cyberpunk 2077.

In a non-NSFW RPG, almost always play female. The characters tend to look nicer (and in third person that's important!), there's often more outfit choices for female characters (especially if you mod), there may be dialog or story options open to female PCs that aren't there for males, etc.

In NSFW games, I'll take what I'm given, although I'm not averse to "playing across the aisle". I do wonder what I'd do if I gender swapped for a day. Probably stay in and play with myself!

If I get to create my own character I almost always make a male with my hair color. But it doesn't bother me at all if the character I want to play happens to be female.
