How often do you chip away at your media backlog? Is it growing faster than you can keep up? How do you feel about it?

A media backlog is the collection of movies, shows, games, books, and other content you’ve saved or want to get to but haven’t consumed yet.

It tends to grow over time as you discover more.

I don't try to keep one. Too many "you should listen/read/watch this!", too many "hmm, that might be cool..." to keep track of. Eventually if/when I come across them, maybe I'll check them out, maybe I won't. And then that repeats lol

I’m currently chipping away at the games and manga I’ve had saved on my phone for a while. It felt a bit like food left out overnight, like it was going stale, but finishing some of it actually felt really satisfying, almost like I’d cleared everything out properly and didn’t let anything go to waste.

It also helped that I didn’t add anything new to my backlog. When I wasn’t dealing with it, I’d end up doomscrolling until it didn’t feel good anymore, leaving me with that restless “I should be doing something else” feeling, like I’d rather do something productive than just sit there doing nothing.

Ah... the temptation of doing a more productive nothing. I understand this lol. Maybe it's an age thing. I was more like you in my 20's

Sometimes I just want to say “screw it” and delete my whole backlog so I can feel clean and at peace with nothing to gnaw at the back of my mind.

But then I know I’d just end up doomscrolling instead. I’d rather feel like I’m actually accomplishing something by working through something, you feel me?

I do. And it's also nice having a mental storeroom of cool things you've seen. Art is how we learn to human.

@Paradigminant Why doesn’t clicking on your username take me to your profile page? It doesn’t even show your profile banner like it usually does with other users.

I haven't really settled into a schema that works for me, yet.

Really, all I do in my free time is watch edutainment videos for background, use this board, and play lewd games.

On most days I am adding five games to my games list. But really only playing about five in a given week. This is why I ended up making a spreadsheet in the first place. So that I can keep track of the ones that seem interesting.

What I've figured out is that I tend to play the games that get updates often enough to be in my memory, the rest just languish on the list. I feel like if I need something to do I can go through those older games in the list. But realistically it hasn't happened yet.

The consequence is that I am familiar with so many games, but spend very little time on any of them.

So, I handle the task by failing in a pseudo-productive manner.

Think I had it set to private/invisible. Better now?
Ohh, you’ve limited who can view your profile. That’s totally fine, it’s your right. I was just confused and thought it might be a site bug.

I do that by default whenever I make a new account. Just turn everything off lol. This seems a pretty chill community though
