I thought of myself as a 7 but as time goes on and keep exercising I'm finding closer to a 9

How are you making that progress? Gym and good diet I assume.
Not a public gym. I am able to do resistance training at home though. I've had like a 3x reduction in calorie intake.
The most important thing has been mental state I believe. Knowing we're human. We mess up. Sometimes I eat too much cake. I don't hate on myself for doing it. I acknowledge it. Accept I can't change it now, but I can better understand my feelings so I can make the more beneficial decisions as time goes on.

I would say in terms of looks/appeal about 7 or 8 out of 10, in terms of physical ability 4 or 5 (but then, I have over 50 years of age, so its to be expected). Luckily been out of the race for about 30 years, so I really don't care.

If you are married for that long it's not as important. I would try to preserve my looks even after 30 years of marriage though. You might have to join the competition eventually. Unexpected things can happen.

Good mental state is essential, I agree.

I would say either a 4 or a 5

Naught point 5.
And I recognize that is probably being to generous.

I'll tell you a secret: besides losing hair (which is mostly genetics) and not gaining weight (which is mostly up to what you eat and how you deal with it in terms of moderate exercise) you don't really need to do all that much to keep your looks acceptable until the 60s if you're a man... Of course you should try to keep your physical state good too, but health has a large effect on it while you age.
