Story went downhill after the stalker case was resolved. Why did the dev have to insist on overcomplicating things? The game could easily be hard carried by the bonding moments with the characters.

Yup. It's also handled very poorly if you're the paths of both the mother and her sister. You're forced to choose one of them at some point, and if you choose the mother, her sister is understandably upset since she's used to being in her sister's shadow and men only getting close to her to get to her sister. If you choose the sister, there's less drama but it's still sad. And no matter what you choose, everyone just seemingly suffers brain damage and forgets you were ever on the other's path at all.

Pretty sure there's been a release or two since the last one on this site.

Just the one release. It was tagged as On Hold for a while over on the other site, until v0.15.1 came out in November.

There's apparently a bit of story progression, but the rest of it seems a bit half-baked judging from the changelog:

I'm sorry, but I have not properly tested or proofread this update. It has been a real struggle to finish it and I just needed to get it released. So I'm sorry about any bugs, typos, or bad writing. I will fix them all in due time.
Also, there are two sex scenes in this update. I consider them to be unfinished. My first attempts at sex scenes were bad. I have tried to improve on them with these new ones, but I'm still learning and experimenting.

One of the best stories I've ever played. Few characters, but it makes you feel part of the story. It would be nice if some other character related to Emma, a friend or classmate, appeared. But it's still an amazing game.
