Not sure if this should go in the Recommendations Thread but I figure since this is about hardware rather than software, it should go in off-topic.

Anybody got any recommendations for Hardware; whether it be Computer Parts, Laptops, Phones, Tablets, Virtual Reality Headsets, etc. Could be as broad as "any modern Samsung Tablet" or as specific as "this specific Xiaomi Phone"

I haven't been looking that hard for Hardware but figured I could get an easier answer by asking people's thoughts. Personally, I've been looking to get a new phone that I could use as both a personal cell and as a phone to use to get my rocks off. I've also thought about getting a VR Headset and considered getting a Meta Quest but according to my surface level knowledge, you need to use a FaceBook account and that seems like too much effort to make a facebook account just for that but I don't know, that's just me...

For the phone, if you don't have any specific requirements besides those two I'd recommend getting a cheap android, hardware-wise you can get some pretty good stuff there. The only shortcoming (imo) with them is that they don't get software updates for too long, so you might stop getting new OS versions after a few years.

I have an VR headset and did like it quite a bit when I first got it. But to be honest, I use it super rarely. Once the novelty wears off, I can't really be bothered to get it out of the drawer and use it. If you're already feeling kind of meh about it before buying, I'd probably skip it.

I think with an android you can swap the OS for a more privacy focused one, I think they called them degoogled phones. There is even a phone built for privacy by a company owned by a privacy focused youtuber who came from china and cares deeply about privacy because of how dystopian china is. as for VR, just go for a Vive product, they are a little ahead of the Index with their resolution and I dont think you need an account to use it.

The number one tech item of all time is actually a Roomba with the base you can empty (vs having to empty the little compartment on the Roomba itself). Amazing. Stupendous. Absolute gold. I'm lazy and I have tile floors with throw rugs. I empty the bag once or twice a month and replacement parts are super cheap and easy to use. I try not to look behind doors because it's so dirty. Get a Roomba. You might have a little issue with mapping, but it's worth the trouble. I also use the Brava Wet Jet. I have a lot of issues getting it to do what I want because its logic has a wider radius. Long story short, it cannot maneuver to the base as good as the Roomba. So, it only mops my kitchen and dining room. Does a good job. Don't think I've swept or mopped manually in over a year.

If you're looking for a graphics card, good luck. Instead look into pre-built systems from companies that have been around a while. It's going to be the only way to get a 5080 or better for the foreseeable future. I have the 4070Ti Super and it's right up there with the 5070 & 9070XT in most cases. So, not worth upgrading. I really want a 5090 but I like my arm & leg :)

Tablets & Watches... pretty easy. Apple. Goes double if you already have an iPhone.

Android? Samsung. No need to get some obscure brand to get what you want.

Car? Toyota or Honda (Lexus/Accura). They have some stinkers, but if the model is more than 2 years old, it's pretty much golden.

3D Dev? Nvidia (and it's sad and annoying.

Always worth it to go second hand market unless you really need the absolute newest tech for some reason. Just look for Android phones available on your preferred marketplace and get any non Samsung phone with good reviews and that was released in the last couple of years (there are many reputable Asian brands that will be dirt cheap). You will be completely fine and save a lot of money at the expense of a tiny bit of research. If you're mainly looking to play VNs any old android or business laptop will be fine.

I have a Meta Quest 3 and it's great, but don't know if it's good value ,and yeah Zucc is probably spying on me

Oof, about computer parts, the AMD graphic cards have a soft spot in my heart, I felt validated when I saw that they are pretty efficient for what they are, and what little you loose I probably wouldn't notice it much.

And About the phone I would just go android, comfortable, cheap. Not much to lose, they say Iphone is safest, but, I don't really believe it's worth it.

Any phone, with a new snapdragon cpu
