Grew up in a household with dogs, but friends had cats and dogs, they're both cool. Not really the type of person that has any interest in owning a pet though.

Cats, 99% of dogs I come in contact with (regardless of how often they're bathed) smell like rank ass, and that smell rubs off on everything. The breeds I like the most seem to be the worst with this (especially German Shepherds). They're too much to take care of too, constantly dependent on me for everything. If I want to travel I can leave my cats alone for 2 weeks even without issues. They're a little pissed at me and hungry for attention when I get back home, but all is fine still.

A cat adopted us and moved in when I was in sixth grade or thereabouts. So the dog or cat person decision was kinda taken for me.

Cats are the best, most of the time you can get a totally chill or a bit of a mix of sassy and chill kind of cat but they are so loving regardless and low maintenance. Dogs are great but at least my interactions are a lot of peoples dogs are not trained or misbehave and just seems that they are a lot more work and/or just more responsibility to take care of than a cat. Just my opinion anyways.

I've had both growing up so I like both, but I generally keep cats since they're more self reliant and I don't need to take them outside several times a day.
