With the increased censorship, and difficulty finding even older VNs that dealt with sensitive subject matters, it definitely feels like the golden age is behind us to me. What do you guys think?

People will find a way to get around the censorship, I think there is much better quality work being done now than before and things will be much better in the future

The average quality has gone downhill and it is noticeable.

Yea. There are three things I see at play here:

• The legal hurdles. The issue with Proud Father has to be eye opening for us all, regardless of where we live.
• Payment issues. How to monetize this when CC companies want to distance themselves from smut (I see this as the biggest hurdle)
• Unprofessional devs looking for a quick/easy payday.

The first two will lessen the third, but I see all three as factors that play into the "past the golden age" hypothesis. We will not (and cannot) know until enough time passes anyway, so its all speculation.

I do think golden age of AVNs is behind us.

Creatively, it's gone from passion projects to quick bucks.
Legally, it's gone from such "It's a niche market so who cares?" to fully legislated.
Financially, it's gone from easy payment access to jump through massive hoops (BTW, FUCK puritanical banks and CC companies!)

So, eventually, someone will invent new tech (can't even begin to guess) which, as always, will be weaponized first, then used for porn.

Then we'll have the golden age of (insert new tech here) and the cycle will begin anew.

There are some stories that started just a few years ago and will never see some kind of conclusion, and there are a few that I think will remain getting updates until god knows how long, using old engines and stuff to make the graphics, it would get really outdated.

It's over. Look at the junk passing as an AVN these days. As far as the morality police go, banning certain genres doesn't stop people into those genres from seeking it out. You can no more outlaw sexual preference than you can political preference. The people into certain things are gonna look elsewhere to get their fix. If they can't get it in games, they may just get it in the real world. And then you've just caused far more damage than letting someone release their urges into a fictional world.
