Depends on the game. Generally speaking, I try to avoid using a full on walkthrough or walkthrough mod but I almost always use mods that inform me what flags or variables are being triggered by the choice selections (such as Universal Renpy Mod or Universal Choice Descriptor).
I mostly do this because what I think an outcome of a choice should be versus what the developer thinks is regularly at odds. I get that most of these games are meant to be fantasies of some sort, but I can't help but to expect some degree of realism when making a choice, and that's pretty rare in most porn games. For instance, many porn games will allow you to be an absolute, degenerate asshole and all the LI will still somehow view you as a nice and caring person. On the flip side, just because I don't want to be an asshole to a character, doesn't mean I want to fuck them but so many games are very binary with these choices.
Additionally, routing in some games can be very nonsensical and/or obscure. Since I play with mods that allow me to see the flags (and sometimes I just look through the scripts to try and follow their logic), it can be very annoying when some seemingly unimportant dialog choice about your favorite animal ends up locking you out of a sex scene/LI three chapters later.
