Let me start off by saying I've seen really good AI images and really bad AI images. But most of all- I've seen almost good AI images. There's always reoccurring issues: fingers (like 90% of the time) or something warpped/deformed, eyes misaligned, something merging/splicing into/with something else, some weird physics-breaking object in the background etc. And that ALWAYS kills my interest when I spot it. A porn scene or a landscape, realistic or fantastic, 2D or 3D doesn't matter. Its like someone's rough draft or a sketch where you still see the erased outlines. Since its everywhere now (for better or worse), I just had to put this out there cuz I see it and think "Is this good enough for everyone?"
So is it just me overanalyzing the image, or does happen for you too? Do you just accept that's just AI and it will never (or rarely) be perfect? Or am I missing the whole point of AI-that its just a means for the unartistic to create something almost maybe kinda passably decent?

Gonna be honest, I was an AI art hater for a long while. I felt like I could always tell when something was AI vs legit. But now the tech is evolving so fast that the good AI art creators have become impossible to spot mistakes in.

Sure there are plenty of people churning out shitty stuff quickly with weird hands, weird backgrounds, melding etc. but I've started to see a lot of stuff out there that's literally perfect. And that's a bit scary... but hey considering what kind of site we're on, maybe we're just entering the golden age of digital porn.

The more AI develops the more my distaste for it does. It seems the part of my brain that handles the 'uncanny valley' has got more keen instead of less keen with time.
AI art always feels soul-less and lifeless, and the reason I always get unnerved by it is that:
a) it feels like a computer trying to pass for human, and
b) it shows me that there are people out there who are so detached from normal sensibilities that they look at these eldritch abominations and insist it is as good as the real thing.

It really bothers me that we are moving to a world where we are completely surrendering truth, art and expression to whatever a computer algorithm wants to vomit out.

I'm somewhere between 1 and 2. I'm a guy who makes AI "art" (OK, basically just porn :ROFLMAO: ) and I will crop off the worst atrocities if I can. But the ability to make porn to my own specifications will allow me to semi-ignore some infelicities like six- or four-fingered hands or stuff like that if the rest of the image is hot enough. So I guess that means I come down a little closer to 2. :coffee:

Obvious defects are a big no-no but minor details that are hard to notice are fine. Hand drawn art isn't perfect either.

Having dabbled into AI art myself I can say that that there is huge leaps in the tech month by month and you can definitely make almost perfect pictures with enough patience.

One thing it's sure. We are all entering a new era. The A.I. (not only in the "art") it's a really threat for the umanity. I'm personally a little scared from this. The A.I.CGI is a fast evolving application of the algorithm and have a great potential. I am both curious and cautious.
As for the topic of discussion, I think it basically depends on several factors if the image is acceptable or horrible. Personally, if the image stimulates my tastes, I'm going over some minor flaws. Aberration is another thing, of course.

YES uncanny valley vibes for sure. at the same time, I feel like if some just took the time to edit and touch up things here and there that would take care of it.
About what you said in b)-- "normal sensibilities" are going extinct in direct correlation with CGI and AI. I don't know if its the medium thats creating some new/odd fetishes or if they always existed and now the medium is just allowing it to flourish. either way it sucks when your image search and have to omit tags like -futa, -muscular, -giant breasts, etc etc...

I can overlook small stuff but when certain vital body parts get fucked up its generally a no go.

uncanny valley effect and broken anatomy, also sometimes surroundings feels like subliminal spaces

The really good AI art that I've seen is almost always cleaned up and edited by the artist after generating it. Personally, seeing almost any kinda of aberration or inconsistency in AI art takes me out of it, so I'm pretty picky. I avoid the vast majority of games that use AI images that I see because I've played too many where the character seem to have the "concept" of a specific appearance that varies in each images, have extra of malformed limbs, or the backgrounds feature weird fever dream anomalies. Seeing things that could be fixed in couple minutes with GIMP (or even Paint!) that the dev decided to just leave in out of laziness really lowers the quality of the experience. That said, if I see a game with AI art that looks well edited and consistent, I'll definitely check it out.

Usually the big issue for me with AI is that all the faces looks the same. And the lak of animations or quality of them.

I actually LIKE them most often. hear me out... they can create some shit that is unnatural but still beautiful. It reminds me of the old Giger paintings (that later got fame for the Alian movies) where things seemed to melt/blend together (how would Dali approach AI... hmmm)

One thing i see in AI that i LOVE is how it handle lingerie and often fuses the lingerie and the subject. that shit can be red-fucking-hot

I see an ugly beauty in some wonk-ass AI images with legs sticking out or whatever mutated shit can happen.

I'm mostly neutral toward ai until it can do quality animations. Most of the images I see have the smooth feel that seems weird.

sometime they can just be so bad they are funny

I am strongly against the principle of AI in general. Some "artworks" can be ok if enough work is put into them.

I find it surprising that people talk about AI uncanny valley turning them off.
Some daz models in games are straight up distorted or look like plastic characters. Also, the lighting is, in most games, weird (no shadows or over exposed scenes).
Those things are worse offenders for me.
I guess low effort work, whatever the medium (2d, 3d, AI, pixel art...), is usually unattractive to me.

well its nice to know I'm not the only one. with how prevalent it is, I assumed everyone was on the "good enough for me" AI train

AI as a replacement for real art? Not a huge fan. Art serves a purpose within society and handing that off to AI feels internally off.
AI as a tool for games, porn, etc? That's really a good thing. Little imperfections don't bother me, they just remind me of the visual glitches in older games.

I have noted that often there is something about the image, even if all the details are correct that is just wrong - a sort of gloss that doesn't belong and the mind knows that it doesn't.

I'm also in the uncanny valley on a lot of AI art. Daz, honey select, feel fine, but a lot of AI art creates a disconnect. I prefer the stylized AI art that isn't trying to act like its real.
Who knows where we'll be in a few years though.
