Either put in a good animation, or do no animation and spend the effort on expanding the game in other ways. Mid or poor animations don't contribute to a scene, IMO.
Either single playthrough or have two distinct paths that don't cross over (like Love and Corruption paths) so you can just go with one or the other at the start and never change.
Having a great number of variations of scenes or conditions for unlocking scenes is not a good thing with games...
If they grant some benefit like upgrade points so they're an option to grind ahead of the level you'd be at through normal progression, then I like them.
Sandbox; I can't understate how much repeatable scenes and being able to choose what order I do them in (on any particular day) adds to them, as compared to seeing it once in a novel-style game.
