    The few female protag games I've played are clearly written by men, it's just a harassment, rape, blackmail, slutty gross fest. I'm also more interested in female diversity in scenes rather than male diversity.

    I've probably quit and ditched more than I've played through all the way, not really into wasting my time if a game doesn't jive pretty quickly. I have bought a handful of finished games, can't really get behind paying monthly for maybe updates sometimes mentality that seems all too common.

    I just check recommendation threads (search that subforum for a tag you want), check latest updates every so often, and do a more specific tag search if you still aren't finding anything. I have a big backlog of bookmarked games and a bit of a variety downloaded at all times.

    Raptus as has been mentioned, it didn't really bother me (it is just a game after all), but it also didn't do it for me as an adult game so I don't think I'd really want to try similar games or the supposedly worse games mentioned in this thread.

    Renpy or Unity ?

    Ren'py just has the functions you need for a VN baked in so it's a safe bet, but unity and godot work fine if the programming is good and are much more versatile. That versatility usually just leads to sandboxes that are shit or minigames that are shit though.

    I can't stand when all of the characters are indistinguishable from each other. Not having some traits, quirks, mannerisms, etc. outlined and followed to differentiate characters really stands out to me and just reeks of lazy writing and causes to me to close and uninstall.
