Do you change the MC's name and to what?

When I was younger I used to change the MC's name into my real name if it was a single player game, otherwise it was randomized each time, but sometime in 2007 or 2008 I was playing World of Warcraft, I had just made a Blood elf Paladin and I was spamming the random name generator and it landed on Acindil, ever since then any time there is an option to name the MC I've used this name for every single one, if the game only allows a couple of characters or requires a nickname I go with Ace and if a last name is required I usually go with Dragonstone or D.Stone, depending on character limits.

9/10 I skip games that force you to play female characters, but in the rare time I do have to name a female MC it's always Lillium, if a game asks me to change the name of NPCs I typically won't unless the name is either too weird for me, something like Olga I'd change, or if a game features copyrighted characters and they have to change their names slightly to avoid copyright, I'll rename them to their real names.

Where it's an option, I always change the name to Richard and the surname (if there's a choice) to Head. Needless to say, if there's an option to choose a nickname, it's inevitably going to be Dick. This works fine until there's a char in the story actually called Richard; then things can become messy unless I use the .urm option to alter / replace names.

If the MC is a woman, I use my name, if it's a man, I use the name of my first boyfriend.

I have a list of names that I like to use for my game characters. I've got one default name/surname for my MC, and a few variations for better immersion in fantasy/historical/sci-fi/etc. contexts. The names of other characters I usually leave alone, but sometimes they're the names of people I know well or even family members and that just gives me major ick. So that's where that list comes in. I've got a bunch of names with different vibes for different settings and personalities, that none of my family/friends have, and use Universal Ren'Py Mod to change offending characters' names to something that fits.

I always change the name to Jack in all games.
First name "Jack", last name "Off", right?

Hey! I see someone else had a similar idea as me. Richard for it's obvious use of the nickname. But I go Brass for the last name for Brass Balls.

would
But it depends on what kind of game it is really. Mainly because when you're playing and NOT changing the name to y/n it just doesn't feel like you're actually in it

Playing Zelda games without changing the name is fine tho cos that's just who Link is, but when you're playing VNs or other RPGs and the MC has a default name, you're not putting yourself into the game,

You're just watching the story like a spectator

Oh, and then there are adult games. I change the MC's name to Sins, purely because that's the kind of man I aspire to be, a multitalented CEO, engineer, respected doctor, pizza delivery guy, plumber... you name it

Always. Whenever a new game gives me the chance to customize the main character's name, I always do.
It makes the game and the story feel much more immersive. I pay closer attention to the lore, the dialogues, and the world details.
If I don't, it feels like I'm just watching someone else's story. Don't know why but it makes me also easier to skip dialogues and cutscenes I'm not interested in.

dislike? Why do you say that? Did I misunderstand something? :(
Because, in the majority of VNs, the male MC is a shallow, self-seeking, unprincipled a**hole. Perhaps I'm being old-fashioned, but I would imagine that most women would prefer to steer well clear of someone like that irl.

Now I understand  I'm not interested in such games here. I prefer games... let's say family games :sneaky:

Never, I don't invest myself in the stories told, it would be like changing the MC name in a book or a movie.

MC name: one of my online nicknames. It's technically a username, but I use it so much it's technically "me" already. And no, it is not "desuer".
MC surname: Kaczynski, as a homage to the Unabomber.
Girl names: always default names.
Girl roles: usually the ones supposed to be without censorship: "landlady" = mother, "roommate" = sister etc.
