discussion If you could create 1 power and gain it, with a few restrictions, what power would you create and than use it for?

The power to be able to change and spread conscious understanding by contact. The power could have you make contact with someone and change their conscious to make changes to their understanding and view of the world. Such as conscious of greeting someone with a handshake is instead with a kiss or slap, considering it to be the same as a handshake in their understanding of society. This is a conscious virus that spreads from that infected person to another by contact, contact can be physically or eye contact since both is a type of contact, maybe even sound so it becomes more of a proximity spreading. You as the holder of the power is patient zero that can create new virus, others can only spread existing ones. Conflicting conscious virus will erase each other in the same infected.

The downside is that you can't easily control when you spread a new virus without keeping a focused will of not doing so when in proximity of others, so if you mentally slip at all then any or all of your conscious thoughts, not sub conscious. Will spread and that could become very, very horrible.

Near a cop and you lose focus on your control, end up with bird shit on you or something else that just make you think to yourself. I want to die, then the cop will either kill you or themselves depending on the intention and other details of your thoughts. It isn't direct mind control, this is very important to note.

Thats an excessive con imo.

Perhaps; you can kill any1 and any number of people you want instantly, but every single use of the power ( be it one kill or a thousand) removes 10 years.

Alternatively.

For every kill you loose a week of life.

Your concept is similar to the Death Note Shinigami eyes deal, costing half your remaining life. That power on its own is meaningless for the most part, but in combination with the Death Note itself, its very powerful. it is however a 1 time cost allowing you to then kill any1 and any number of people you like so long as you can see their name.
Your example of 1 kill = 10 years, is even more costly, so i dont think it a fair deal imo.

I think the worst thing about immortality is that it isnt explicitly implied that your also invulnerable.
Immortality without invulnerability is potentially eternal torture. Imagine being hacked up and still being alive. Thrown into the Mariana Trench, being crushed and still being alive.

Immortality AND invulnerability without the power to turn them off, is also potentially eternal torture.
Without that ability you would experience the heat death of the universe and be an eternal entity. Not something you want.

You can kill anyone, but someone else dies too. You have to take out an innocent bystander. Might even be someone you know. If I was writing a story, that'd be my drawback for the murder power

Or for every person you kill there is a small chance you also die that increases exponentially with each person you kill. Than maybe have it reset after a year or so.

really if you think about it, drawbacks are just about figuring out ways around something or a drawback whose potency depends on the individual and their personality.

power would be luck manipulation. you can make yourself any amount of lucky for the next 24 hours but you must pay back that luck twofold for the next 24 or first day lucky second day unlucky.

I think you succeeded, well done! So how would you use your luck? Would you have a plan or just see what randomly occurs? How does luck interpret what's "good" or what your intentions are?

I mean baseline definition is simply the odds favoring you more throughout the day. say you want to see a nickel on the ground and pick it up, you'd have better odds that such things happen but its all about intentions as you go through the day. the power would probably work sort of as a set multiplier of some kind throughout the day and as such a reliable way to use it is through minor gambling and then just not gamble on the day of negative luck. Although, on the day of negative luck, as it functions the same way, you have to ensure that such a day is essentially free from possible consequence, limit yourself from doing anything essentially to ensure that the increased negative luck doesn't fuck you over ala car malfunction as you walk the side of the road.

Most drawbacks when it comes to powers are simply things to circumnavigate. But the luck one is interesting thing to look at.

a simple way to not deal with this is to not make yourself lucky. If you can circumnavigate a drawback its not a bad thing as the only stipulation i really have is its equal or greater to the power itself. Really make people question if the power is even worth it.

I've always thought I'd choose the ability to stop time would be amazing.
Of course that won't work physically and goes against the restrictions outlined in the post, but man that would be an amazing power

If you can make a way for it to make sense you can do it. I mean just have gravity control. Gravity directly effects time after all. The higher the gravity the slower time flows

i would pick the power to become non corporeal, think like Danny Phantom or the DnD 7th level spell Etherealness. some downsides im unsure apart from in DnD its is a difficult spell to get to
