Ok. Maybe I'm dumb, but can someone define the difference between NTR and Cheating. I don't mind cheating on my love interests like banging their best friends or sisters(or mothers), but I DO MIND my love interests banging other men. Women on women not so much. What is the difference? Does Rape of a love interest count as NTR or is rape the MC doing the deed to a possible LI? I do not want to play a game where an LI strays. Is cheating banging other LIs where there is no Harem tag?
My understanding is NTR is Netorare - cheating without consent (mostly LI with other partners)
NTS is Netorase - Cheating with consent/while watching or involved like setting up dates (again mostly LI with partners)
NTI(?) - Netori - MC cheats with people other than main LI

General speaking rape is not NTR, because NTR is about your partner getting "stolen".
寝取る is a compound verb which is made of 寝る ("to sleep") and 取る ("to take, to pick, to deprive"). So 寝取る as a set verb means something like "to deprive by sleeping". It refers to stealing someone's partner via giving sexual pleasure.
Should the rape end in her liking the rapist fucking her more than the MC, then it is indeed NTR.
But many still see every form of rape as NTR, because for them anytime a LI is with someone else, it's NTR. Sometimes it can even be some random girl with somebody else and some will call it NTR.
Overall it doesn't matter if its guy on girl, girl on girl or guy on guy, everything is called NTR/Netorare, there is no difference in gender. Some do call it "reverse netorare" if the genders are switched.
So according to what you like and don't like, you should avoid NTR, Netorare and Netorase.

Ideally, NTR should not exist on its own on LC, because they should all be replaced by this:

But since NTR is the standard abbreviation for Netorare... yeah, you should avoid it.
Netori is not just doing other girls, but girls of other man, so their GFs or wifes.
Also Netori and Harem have a hard time existing together, because for it to be Netori, the harem part is difficult to do, because she would be still another mans girl.
Well... unless she breakes up and becomes the sole girl of the MC. But many harem-enjoyers would hate that, because for them she would be "tainted".

Exactly. I don't mind doing the cheating or stealing, but I don't like it done to my MC. But isn't it all the same. I steal a LI from their girl. Now she's with me. Or then she goes back to her brother or whatever

Usually you can just search the game's thread to see who is the person getting NTRd in the game. If you just refuse to play any game with the NTR tag then you will miss out on some good netori games like Hero's Party Must Fall.
People often confuse them a lot, but they're divided into three categories:
- Netorare: This is the most well-known and is based on infidelity. Usually, one partner cheats on the other against their will, although it's also because they simply wanted to cheat. Hated for good reason, in games, it means the MC will be the victim and their love interests will cheat on them.
- Netorase: Similar, but not the same. This is more like partner swapping and/or prostitution; you let others use your partner or even charge for it. It has its niche and is often seen in games focused on brothels.
- Netori: The only good thing about NTR. It's exactly the same as Netorare, but instead of being the victim, here you steal someone's partner. People (myself included) particularly love it when it's moral Netori, meaning you steal the partner from a person who abuses them.
There are many exceptions. For example, many people don't consider it NTR when it's between women who are or will be love interests, but that's more a matter of taste. I hope the explanation is satisfactory.
Id add, that some stories that start as netorase can easily turn to netorare later, when protags LI gets "converted" by a guy with whom he initially shared her. Also netorare in some cases can turn in to netorase later, if a guy who stole protags LI is willing to share her back. In general, netorare most often also includes some form humiliation for protagonist, and it can be very severe like castration or turning in to sisy/woman. In same very rare scenarios it also can even go way up to netori. In stories like that, a guy who steals protags LI, later serves as sorta mentor character for him and teaches how to build harem of sex crazed slaves, because netorare denigrates not only male protag, but most of the times reduces his LI to a state of mindless sex doll.

Netori: You take someone else's girl against their will. You feel strong and big. It should be someones girl, but could be someone they're pursuing. Some actually think this is hot.
Netorase: You willingly allow your girl to be taken by another person. You feel complex emotions (which I try actively to not understand). It should be your girl. Some actually think this is hot.
We did split the NTR categories down some months ago, and if you mouse over the tag at the top of the page, a window will pop up with the definition of what the tag is for, so there is that.
I don't think we've converted all of the games we have, but when we update a game that has the generic NTR tag, we determine what kind of NTR it is and label it accordingly. I've asked about doing that with all of the broad umbrella-term fetishes, but most of them aren't nearly as divisive as NTR is, so it's not worth the effort. Lol.
- its sharing, really. Like for example, if we take some incest themed story, protag of such story starts banging some sexually repressed MILF and than helps her son to bang... his mom. Now whole family is happy. Or it can be just good ol' swinging. Granted, often it can also "devolve" in to netorare.

This is a good definition as it explains the difference between NTS (you enjoy it, she tends to do it to keep you happy) and sharing (more of a western corruption thing).
