I hate "university" where everything works like a high school and the characters act like high school students. I guess this is just another censorship issue but it bothers me more than the step stuff for whatever reason. I am kind of tired of high school settings generally but don't hate them.

Not sure if it counts as a trope or not, but for me it's harem games where the dev can't stop themselves from adding new girls every update. It gets to a point very quickly where I can't possibly care about any of the characters, new or old, because I know that their screen time is going to be split between like 10-50 other characters. It's such an awful way to kill a story.

Edit: I didn't read the post above mine before pushing post and now I look like a fool! Rapenyan totally called it. Constantly adding new characters feels like it's just a time waster.

Whenever I see games advertising how there are dozens of LIs I just think "great, so I won't care about any of them."

Wimpy MC (or just annoying MCs in general). Seriously, if I'm going to be stuck with this dude for 100% of the experience, then he better not be insufferable. Case in point: Most Japanese eroge VN protagonists. But my latest example is actually a western VN called Single Again. It's an incest simulator with daddy/daughter content. As the reader, you clicked on it for the incest. You're reading it for the incest. You want to see incest happening, but somehow the protagonist spends the entire 40-50 hours of the playtime getting hung up on how wrong incest is and how it can never happen again.

It's a bad writing habit where the author wants the kink to justify itself, like someone's breathing down his neck as he writes. Defenders call it "realistic" because they have cognitive dissonance and can't see how the very premise of most incest simulators is already as unrealistic as it gets.
