There is going to be some dad/mom that leaves there account logged in just for there kid to use it then after the kid is done a swat team will bust in and arrest them for child endangerment.

Edit: Oh and yes bullet #3 is about limiting how much youtube you can watch fucking fun right.........

Because nobody has ever watched stuff that is strictly "for their age".
So, if a 40-something dude isn't watching whiskey-making videos, top-gear reruns and DIY video, you might get labled as someone else?
Because parents totally would never look up stuff for their kids, if that content is fine for them to watch in their own accounts...

So then teens get send those generic semi-porn ads and brainrot gambling ads that aren't targeted to anybody?

Depressed Teen wants to watch their happy place kind of video. Youtube: No, you don't deserve to be happy.

thats right, you can tell a persons age by talking to them.....

all you kids better delete your accounts right now. lol

i stopped logging into YT 3 or so years ago, I also deleted my videos but still have over 20k subs & it grows every day with zero content.

a human would never sub to a zero content channel !!

vpn is a stop gap and they have the power to ban people from buying/gaining access to vpns in the past uk did this to other stuff by blocking access to websites and not allowing uk payment for said product. But they never have done it to vpns yet.

ummmmm

i can put any (free, pirated) program in a password protected compressed file, name said program anything i want, make it into a torrent so you do not need to access a website in a country & make the program portable so it does not need to be installed.

i can also use other methods for payments (by not talking about it, no one knows, no one stops the method because they don't know how its done)
but a (fictional) example would be "your grandma bought it for a birthday gift, your grandma lives in antarctica where there are no banking laws"

My daughter uses a 3rd party site to watch YT videos.
no idea what it is but it only pulls the video, no ads unless its a video ad embedded in the original video

Utub has continued to go downhill ever since Google bought it.

I'm confused on how this is going to work?
I'd assume the algorithm will do the work. Typical pigeonholing. They have some data that tells them what kind of behaviour means this and that. And that's what the AI will declare you as.

It is going to be a mess.

You can get all the VPNs you want but once the Websites start blocking the VPN server IP ranges your VPN is going to do nothing for you
Clordfare is already doing similar w/ it's verification (Such as, if you're using Tor or it's adjunct).

You can get all the VPNs you want but once the Websites start blocking the VPN server IP ranges your VPN is going to do nothing for you

All a VPN does is mask your IP address by connecting to a VPN server located in whatever Region you picked and then having that VPN server access the sites for you

So your IP of 1.1.1.1 in Region X gets masked to 2.2.2.2 in Region Y and only the VPN server knows what your real IP and Region is. Yet when the website says okay, we know the 'SuperVPN' servers are IP 2.2.2.2 lets block all requests to our site from that IP, your VPN no longer works unless they get the server a new IP that isn't on the sites block list

All the VPN does is keep the Websites from knowing you are 1.1.1.1 Region X, the websites still see that 2.2.2.2 Region Y is connecting to them and can block that IP if they choose to do so

There are already numerous websites that block VPN access by blocking the VPN servers like the account services section of Square Enix's Account Management for FFXIV, and 4chan as another more well known site example, but if you purchase a 4chan Pass which is 30 USD per year to support the site, they will allow you to access it through a VPN

You say that now, but if you are in a country that is going to implement these changes, it's more than likely only a matter of time until they say hey, Login to access the site or gtfo

Depends on the VPN and the server you are using though.
I can access 4chan through my VPN.
Youtube doesn't like some of the servers my VPN uses but others are fine.

Anyway, this entire age verification thing is obviously meant as censorship and not as at all to protect children.

Another person that knows the truth thank you for the comment

Exactly my most down voted comment with the most hate was on reddit saying this as people call them the savior sense sites are using cloudfare over captchas.

You don't need an account to watch youtube in the UK.

Please do not troll on here

you saw what i said about youtube kids so anything that is deemed adult needs a id check via a account in the uk

Depends on the VPN and the server you are using though.

For now there is also vpn servers you can rent/own also

"Children’s online safety in the UK is having its seatbelt moment." :ROFLMAO:

and

"Age assurance measures for pornography providers supported by Ofcom include: facial age estimation, which assesses a person’s likely age through a live photo or video; checking a person’s age via their credit card provider, bank or mobile phone network operator; photo ID matching, where a passport or similar ID is checked against a selfie; or a “digital identity wallet” that contains proof of age."

No, that's not dangerous at all, obviously.... :sneaky:

Google and YT are dive-bombing straight into the "fuck around" phase with AI.

Oh, it gets even better! If YouTube falsely flags you as underage you can prove your age by giving them your government ID or banking information! Nothing could possibly go wrong there!

"If the system incorrectly estimates a user to be under 18, they will have the option to verify that they are 18 or over, such as using a credit card or a government ID."

It seems like the response to this is universally negative so hopefully YouTube realizes how shitty this policy is and backtracks, but considering YouTube's track record I wouldn't hold my breath.
