Australia is really wanting to become a nanny state. It's not the government's job to micromanage the family unit. It's not the government's job to micromanage the internet. Parents need to parent. This obsession with child-proofing the entire world is why our kids are such pussies. It's been that way since the 90s, when that stupid "participation trophy" shit started happening.

But "protect the children" is also the perfect avenue for control. Nobody would DARE argue against keeping children safe, right? What kind of MONSTER are you that you don't want your KIDS to be safe?

It's about control. It has fuck-all to do with the kids. Just look at what Australia did when the coof hit. They had those "Covid Camps" and had *Instagram influencers* shilling for it. "It's not that bad. It's like a vacation!"

That being said, it is the parent's job to monitor / restrict access to social media not the god damn government. The government does not ever know better than a parent in how to raise a child. No one outside the government thinks that they know better than an individual. I'm ok with kids not having access to sites to make the internet stupid. My problem is in how they handle it, usually by assuming everyone's a minor unless they provide privacy-breaking information. Fuck that!
