I know nothing about him or his games but that seems like a fair sentence. I had to look after a girl who was raped bey her own father and he only got 22 years. I would love hanging but its whatever. The term that p3dos (or MAPs - Minor Attracted Persons) use for this is "Harm Reduction." There was an interview I ran across on youtube with a porn lady, Katie Starling. She runs a website/forum or something where ageplay content creators (some of them VERY extreme) can get together and create that sort of content. It's mostly banned from all the major content sites, like ManyVids, OF, etc. You can't get up there and pretend to be an underage girl or they'll straight ban you. So she made a platform for them. Anyway, her argument is that they also host support groups and such and they want to ween people off CSAM. Her logic being that if you are out there thinking about harming a child, you should have an outlet that is safe and harm-free. So jerking off to a petite 23 year old in pigtails saying she's ten years younger and roleplaying your daughter is a safer way to move through the world, and if that outlet exists, her argument is that some of these people won't consume (or god forbid, create) CSAM.
I don't know which is more likely - a dude gets tired of regular porn, so he gets into JOI porn, then gets into ageplay porn, then eventually escalates to actual CSAM, or the opposite, where there's a p3dofile that is thinking about doing something awful and ends up jerking off to ageplay porn and chills the fuck out.
I'm no psychologist. And obviously I'm here on lewdcorner so I'm not exactly unbiased - I like loli games and I like that fantasy. But I am *not* attracted to real children. It's like the incest thing, too. I have never, ever wanted to fuck my mom or my sister or even my aunts. (though my Uncle Dave's 2nd wife - maybe I guess). But I like the games, the fantasy of the game is taboo and fun and I enjoy it. I have been playing these games for years and I have not escalated.
In fact, honestly, the kind of games and porn I consume now that I'm older (in my 40s) is a lot tamer (and less frequent) than the stuff I consumed in my 20s and 30s. I guess as I got older, maybe my libido slowed down a little bit, or I'm just busier. I find myself really enjoying games like Whoremonger NTE now more than the games where you play a son with a hot mom.

If it was just the game, I would 100% agree with you. Sending people to prison for fictional content is fucking retarded. But the dude had images of real kids. He was also being a really creepy weirdo and filming his neighbours without their consent, and for that he 100% deserves to go to prison.

I agree with all this. Once all the RL stuff came out, I no longer had a problem with him being prosecuted for everything. The tricky part is, though, that the investigation began because of the game, which shouldn't have been illegal. But if he hadn't been investigated for the game, he might still be creeping on his neighbors and downloading CSAM and snuff films. Now, the ideal situation would have been that he could have been found with the RL stuff and prosecuted solely on that, but this isn't a perfect world (boy howdy, do we know that). So now I am kind of unsure how I feel about it all.

You are alleging that the government is lying about the child porn found in Westy's possession. If it were true, this would be a conspiracy. But there is zero available evidence that they are lying; it's just a theory you have. That is the textbook definition of a conspiracy theory.

For the record, Westy was sentenced to 11 years and 7 months behind bars, and will not be eligible for parole until after 8 years and 4 months.
He served 113 days prior to the sentencing.
He pled guilty to:
* Possessing 577 pieces of actual CSAM content on devices seized from his home. Not animations or comics, but real photos & videos.
* Secretly filming three of his female neighbors.
* Creating Proud Father and other similar content.
The judge also threw the book at him because he felt he did not show any remorse or contrition, and exhibited "diagnosis of a p3dophilic disorder, as well as traits of a narcissistic and antisocial personality."
This is not just a guy who made some 3D cartoons of flat chested girls and wrote a creepy dark game. This is a guy who had escalated to the point where he could potentially have gone on to harm actual children.
Collecting real images & photos, secretly filming neighbors...that's on the path, man.

Some people are unable to separate fantasy from reality. It's possible Mr. West is such a person. If he directed his perversion against real people, neighbors, little kids, then lock him up.
It doesn't seem like that is the reason he was initially arrested, however. He was arrested for drawing cartoons. I don't trust a country that arrests people for drawing cartoons. No one should.
