That's how I grew up - dad would usually make a mild version of his "go to" (whiskey sour) that I could sip, or we could have a small glass of wine with them. Unlike my little sister, I never cared for beer, so I never would take a sip of that. Worked well for me - I never "partied" in HS, in part because I never felt the need to try booze since I already knew how it tasted. Even when I got to college, the first time getting drunk was entirely unintentional (didn't realize the punch was about a 50/50 mix of Everlcear and Hawaiian Punch ). Started getting used to beer not long after - was cheaper than anything else. Still didn't drink that often.

Have yet to try absinthe - just never been some place that's had it I don't had it, or with anyone at a given time that thought to try it. I suspect Spec's might carry it - have a bigger one near me or could probably find a few selections at the "Mother Spec's" near downtown. Something for the list!

It's interesting -- most of the people I know that were allowed to taste or drink a bit at a young age never went through the teen drunk stage . The French kids always drank a little wine growing up and the Brits always said that if they were old enough to see over the bar they had no problem being served growing up. They viewed it the way Yanks viewed soda pop.

You should try Absinthe -- but NOT straight up - learn the ceremony of drinking it -- think of a sexy Japanese tea ceremony, and it helps if you like Black licorice

You should try Absinthe -- but NOT straight up - learn the ceremony of drinking it -- think of a sexy Japanese tea ceremony, and it helps if you like Black licorice

I can't remember where I saw the absinthe drinking method first, but I was aware of the steps - though I don't keep sugar cubes around and would have to see if the grocery store kept them around. If not, I have an infuser (cute little thing that looks like an acorn) I could put sugar in and pour it down through that. I'm a huge fan of licorice - meant I always got the black jellybeans at Easter.

I also saw @Lazarus͏'s comment on "floral" versus "licorice" - do different versions have a heavier versus lighter character on the licorice? For example, when cooking, fennel seed adds a heavier licorice hit than tarragon leaves - which also add more of an herbal hint - but both have that underlying licorice flavor.

Exactly that, Tosser. Most liquor stores should have sugar cubes somewhere.

If you try absinthe, also make sure you use cold ice water. Water that isn't cold enough won't release the flavors and aromas of the absinthe as well and can significantly change the way it tastes.

Yes -- I think Lazarus might be a better judge than me -- but to me the one with the strongest licorice flavor is Pernod though I don't know if it is available much anymore (my bottle is OLD) you might try Clandestine but it is much sweeter. It is important to note that there is no licorice root in absinthe -- the licorice flavor comes from green anise and fennel

I clean swept all files while trying to figure out if I had malware/bugs.

Best I can figure is my drivers are fucked and everything needs a fresh install and I don't have the time or gummy bears to figure it out for myself.

Wait, you don't have to wait to like posts with P1? I've got to read those promos again. I'll go read, but what are your favorite perks with each level? Open question to all?

At M+ you lose the cool-down time on posting; at P1 you lose the cool-down time on reacting. That's why I recommend everyone grind at least enough to get P1 if they plan to participate here.

Favorite perk at P4, honestly, was being able to bling-out my postbit.
