Mine is that most AVN stories are inherently narratively stunted because they cater to the male self insert fantasy.

The whole world could end but god forbid the LIs act towards another character the wrong way.

Especially in AVNs with a more realistic tone, it robs the LIs (and even the MC) of agency and genuine emotional depth that's seen in real humans because people wouldn't want that "NTR" shit in their games. And to be fair i get why people AVNs and why they wouldn't want these types of things to happen to the MC, but it just makes it harder for these stories to be seen as realistic when every LI never acts in a conflicting way.

Please feel free to respond to my take but if you can try to prioritize giving your own hot take.

If those are the abbreviations used then yes plenty of players have said they were reluctant to games with NTR, they don't want their MC to "share" the female characters.

Still quite often game creators introduce it if it better fits their views, it may be less visible because of fewer users. A very nice game was trending this week with female chars also having an active sexual life (other than MC) and the file name is "LongStoryShort" (Not sure what the forum's name was) and one of the lead female char is your BF's girlfriend.

I have a hard time with the "Fear of missing out" in gaming. So I like AVN that have options where you never miss things. While branching stories are fun I never find myself replaying to see another branch.

Well, the only times i saw dicks in my life were the times still causing flashbacks and nightmares. So my realism level is bound to the fact ntr is irrelevant and a wrong premise, because if a girl is damaged enough to be interested in dicks and wants even more than one, the protagonist is unlikely to see it in general...and since i'm lesbian and poly, ntr and jealousy dont exist in my life...just like girls who are into dicks ^^

NTR is a bit debated; strictly speaking it refers to someone stealing the player character's love interest from them. But some people are hyper-sensitive to anything that even remotely resembles it, and expand that definition to include things such as "MC sees love interest having sex before he becomes involved with her", "love interest has sexual relationship before she gets involved with MC", "love interest had sexual relationship before she met MC", "female character who is not a love interest has a sexual relationship with someone other than MC", or even "love interest expresses but never acts on interest in another man before getting involved with MC".

Which circles around to OP's point, that devs trying to avoid anything that could set people off has resulted in stagnant, repetitive, and implausible stories.

I don't want to totally violate this, so I'll add my hot take that a lot of the stuff people in the AVN community complain most bitterly about is the natural results of the AVN community's collective behavior.

I imagine for creators, AVNs are a passion project rather than a job (with some exception), whereas for many readers they're just a means to an end (busting a nut), and I suspect there's a bit of a "squeaky wheel" situation happening. The feedback loop is much tighter in these smaller gaming communities; in many cases players can communicate directly with creators and unfortunately there are plenty of players who are more than willing to shit on your art right to your (virtual) face and slander your game to the handful of people who actually play them (and buy them) if you don't hand them a nut every 5 pages. As with anything, if you don't like it, don't read, play, buy, or listen to it, but also don't ruin it for the rest of us!

Well said and couldn't have put it into words better myself. Also the funniest thing is that some non paying members are also often times the loudest in voicing out their disdain.

They shouldn't take too long to build up to the spicy content like give the player at least a bit of a preview like mc discovers LI having sex or something like that
But as I seen that's a 50 50 thing some people like loooong story and build ups some don't

Don't play Kinetic Novel AVNs, if you don't like games where you don't make a choice.

I think dev should plan to do shorter games. Most of them start very strong with long updates in short time, but as time pass they start to slow down with updates.

I think this is due to 2 things:
1. They get burned down with the development and they loose the passion thay had at the start of the project
2. If the project becomes successful they slack off to get as much monthly payments as possible or they get obssesed with meeting the spectations of the people that pay them

I believe it's not because of the story, but because of the profit they start to make by keeping the game constantly 'updated'. Sometimes in some projects the idea of keeping the game boring to continue making a profit is visible, this is the truth. I personally don't let any developer down because I know how much money goes to one's head.

Hard agree! People don't admire ASOIAF because it's such wonderful self-insert series where the good guys are so amazing and the bad guys are easily defeated. People love ASOIAF because it is compelling. So many players here don't understand that the best games aren't the ones that provide easy gratification. If the readers were to write how AGOT ended, then Ned would be alive, the Lannisters are defeated and the good guys win. It would make the fans feel better about themselves, but it would worsen the book.

My hot take is that most AVNs are clean of unpopular kinks. I don't want to play a plain lovey dovey romance game because that's boring. If I would want nothing exciting to happen pornwise that's easy to achieve in real life and I am playing porn games because there I can experience exciting things which I would never try to achieve in real life.
Also I believe most porn games are boring. Just filter for a single exciting kink as tag on the latest update page and the page counter will drop to less than 10% of the count without any filters applied. No offense to the uploaders intended. You're doing a great job

Exactly.. i just have zero desire to replay AVNs to see the small 5-10% that i missed out on. The other issue is that i have a hard time even cuming back to a good AVN when a new chapter is added if i dont have a save still. It would be nice if most all of then allowed to just jump in at the new chapter. With out save data, or as BHGs does give you a questionnaire to dive into the new content. Side note: im pretty much the same with TV and Movies, i rarely rewatch stuff I've already seen unless its been many years later, and i mostly forgot it.
