I have done some research on this behavior. I have had "friends" telling me the same things while browsing "certain" websites. On a hunch I did some poking around with the different VPN services that are more popular than most. What I discovered was "interesting"?!? Now, this could be coincidental and my methods were not exactly scientific but this is what I noticed.
VPN services Owned/Operated in the United States had similar errors/warnings more than 4 times as much as any other services. It is well known that this happens and that US held companies will routinely block and/or restrict certain types of traffic behavior. They will show you errors or security warnings, all in an attempt to deter you from whatever it is that you are doing. Internet service providers are getting smarter. They watch traffic data and if they deem what you are doing as "odd", you suddenly run into bandwidth issues, throttling and in extreme cases, sudden drop outs that force you to reset your modem/routers. it is all an attempt to deter you from doing something they "think" you shouldn't be doing. How do you fight back?
1. NEVER EVER EVER, use a VPN service or app owned in the USA,,,, PERIOD!!! The Federal Government in the USA requires those companies to save, collect and store user data. If you think for one microsecond that a USA owned VPN is safe to use for your "exotic" web surfing habits, you are sadly mistaken.
2. Buy or subscribe to a VPN service that is owned, operated and hosted in a "net neutral" country! Countries like Romania take a very serious stance on internet users privacy. Companies like Cyberghost VPN do not monitor, collect and/or save data and they tell any country that tries to strong arm them to get your data to go kick rocks.
3. When using ANY VPN, point it to a server in a net neutral country! Even if you use a pathetic and spy heavy VPN like Nord VPN, point your IP at a server in Romania or some similar server. Yes, you will take a bit of a bandwidth hit but they will hit a brick wall when they decide to spy on you.
Avoid these VPN services.......... I am serious!!! Avoid them!!
Betternet
HMA -Hide My Ass
Hola VPN
Hotspot Shield VPN
Ivacy VPN
Pure VPN
Opera Free VPN
VPN Master
VPNSecure
Windscribe
NORD VPN
Any "FREE" VPN - Nothing is free folks! Think about it!
Basically any USA owned/operated VPN!!!!
If you are skeptical, simply google "Least private VPN services" or "Worst VPN services" and see what the real experts have to say.
Hardware VPN - Hardware VPN's used to be the go to for privacy, but not anymore, Especially if the device you bought was purchased in the USA. Don't waste your money. They simply do not work.
I know this is long winded but it is information that will save you headaches down the road. I am by no means an expert. I just do alot of research that I may or may not get paid for........
