Why do we like the kinks we like? Help uncover possible connections by taking an anonymous survey

All responses are anonymous, so I don't see any individual results except by some numeric (presumably) hash code. However, you can compare your results (if you remember how you answered) to the average and the distribution, both of which are posted on page 7 of this thread.

This survey isnt a honeypot is it? hmmmm
I had to look up what a "honeypot" was. So to the extent that our kinks are security vulnerabilities (which they are), and to the extent that I'm a some kind of security implementation expert (which I'm not), yes. It's a honeypot.

If you're familiar with Winnie the Pooh, I'm more Pooh than Christopher Robin, so there's that. (G-d knows, I hope neither Pooh nor Christopher Robin is anyone's kink, though, now that I think about it, I bet there are a fair few that get off on either or both....)

As someone with psychology, anthropology and biology degrees I can tell you it comes down too many factors to even attempt to explain. There are literally thousands of books that delve into the subject, but what it really domes down to is triggers, timing and nurture/nature. There are psychologists that tried to argue that just about everything can be manipulated, but it turns out that's false. You can 'push' behaviors, but you cannot entirely change them - at least for now. In science EVERYTHING can be explained if the model can be replicated. Thing is, we can't replicate a person's life and biology on even the largest computer's on the planet. Like an equalizer with a million switches, we are programed to be the way we are.

I agree generally, but that doesn't mean that there aren't genetic factors that influence us to one or another kink. Clearly environmental factors trigger particular expression. But the larger patterns can still sometimes be discerned. The older brother effect on being gay (the FBOE - Fraternal Birth Order Effect) is a clear example. We can hypothesize about other possible genetic and evolutionary bases of particular kinks and that's my hope here.

I did mention nature. However, if one never encounters their particular kink (trigger) at an impressionable time in their lives (timing) how would it form? We are programmed to enjoy sex (hormonal) and hormones influence us (pituitary gland/hypothalamus) via a complex interaction of epigenetics, ecological, social, historical, socioeconomic, nutritional, cognitive/motor functions.... it boggles the mind. Plus, we can build tolerance (physically and psychologically). If you're interested in the subject, search Dr. R. Sapolsky on YouTube. He was my inspiration and one of my professors. He really has a way with the subject. He was the chief reason I went the bio/psych rout. You can also look into chaos theory and [strange] attractors as they pertain to biological systems. Really heady stuff.

Dr. Sapolsky was my inspiration to get into evolutionary biology as a random sideline. His first book, A Primate's Memoir, got me started down this rabbit hole. Every Teaching Company course that he did later (along with a bunch of others) and here I am....

Damn I´m more of a deviant, than I realized XD

But on the other hand.... not really I think?
I´m kinda confused :D

Confused is another turned-on state....

The internet really made me a pervert. I would never have these many kinks if not for many things on here affecting my impressionable young mind.

Seems like an interesting topic. Here's my input:

I refuse the notion that our sexual preferences are largely shaped by societal beauty norms. I've noticed two things very early in my life:
1. The first nude woman I saw was accidental, a music-download gone wrong on Limewire. And she had a bush, and I was extremely creeped out by the bush, not turned on. I've never liked body hair, not even peach fuzz, and I wasn't "groomed" by society or Gilette to not like it, I just don't.
2. I used to spend my classes looking at the pantyhose-clad legs of my classmate. On a hot day, she didn't wear her pantyhose and had bare legs. I realized that I was more attracted to her in pantyhose. Not because I cared about the pantyhose itself, but I liked the fact that it concealed all impurities of human skin. I realized very early on that my idealism/perfectionism wouldn't allow me to experience sex peacefully in real life. Fortunately, we have digital waifus.

I just did the survey.
will you be sharing the results someday?
The survey results for the first 150 people who took the survey is posted on page 7 (Sept. 3). I also posted the results sorted by average level of response later that day. That's probably it for reporting out results for now. I need to figure out a way to get the survey out to a larger, more varied, group.

I hope folks find the survey results interesting, even if they don't show the correlations I expected.

oh, ok thank you I'll take a look at it.

I admit, I did not read all pages of this thread. xD

That was an interesting survey even if just to answer for myself and question my choice of kinks

And once again i notice that i am either into a kink or indifferent about it xD (with the exception of scat and IRL cheating)

That's a pretty long survey, I'm assuming its not using cookies. turned on my VPN anyway.
I Just filled it out, I don't know what it really says about me, but I've decided I like big boobs/asses more
