Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on how 'accurate' or close a parody character looks to the original animation style affects your enjoyment of a game.

I find that if the drawing style is too different from the original it takes me out of it a bit, especially if it's 2d to 2d. Like, if they've drawn Rick and Morty characters in an Anime style,.

3D to 2D I'm a bit more forgiving to - for example a hand drawn Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn. But I'd still prefer it to be 3D if the original is in 3D.

Thoughts?

The problem is that more often than not, I'm not familiar with the original ( objects) of the parodies. I just live in a country with a different cultural code. As a result, I could not finish Four Elements Trainer because what was happening on the monitor looked like some kind of nonsense.

It doesn't bother me much if it still looks good with the changes. Now if they made it different and it looked less appealing to me, like the ThunderCats Roar remake, then it would affect my enjoyment

The closer to the original the better for me, though as long as it looks good I'm not too picky.

The one thing I really hate is radically transforming a character's body shape- e.g. taking a slim character like Gwen Tennyson and giving her absurdly large breasts and butt.

It should be as close to the original as possible. In art style, but also age and behaviour of the characters.
Aged-up and titted-up smols are terrible, especially if they became huge boobed, fat assed bimbos, like so many parodies do.
Those are not the same characters anymore.

Most parody stuff looks extremly stupid, if they have just a hint of resemblence it feels like watching cosplayers failing in reenacting the characters.

I want my smols to be smol. I want my cute smol to stay cute and not become a dick crazed bitch. 😟

We like those character for how they look and behave after all. :giggle:

If they need to be changed that much, why make a parody at all? Make original characters. :cautious:

i'm not too thrilled with parody characters, so i don't play those games

It's more about what show/game they're trying to use , for example i dont like the total drama games because its a childhood cartoon

Honestly, it depends on whether I think the original art-style can be 'sexy' or not. I know there is a Rick and Morty game, but I could never really play it, because that art style does not lend itself to anything sexy, samething with like the Simpsons. Tbh, I don't mind if the art style is even 70%, more so that the character(s) are recognizable and sexy.

Close to the original character, but the original art must be good-looking.
I can understand changes on the characters for parodies of popular shows where they are not really good-looking, but usually these type of games won't interest me if I don't like the base character.

A parody has to look and feel close to the original. The only exception are lolified parodys.
The opposite is an instant game killer, like cow tits in fairy tale.

This question makes me think of The Lewd House. There are a couple of different versions by a couple of different developers. One is faithful to the original Cartoon, the other is more of a tribute. The faithful one hits much, much better for me.

I always grade on a curve, fan media gets leeway, porn gets more. It's not like there's a reference for what Marge's pussy should look like
Really I'm prioritising being servicable porn over fidelity to the source.
That said there's a certain level of familiarity you need with the characters to be able to connect the parody to the originals. The worst kind of fan art is obvious self insert OC, that ruins my immersion immediately.

If you are making a parody game then the artwork should reflect the original fairly closely. That way it allows for better immersion into the parody of the character and lets the sense of wish fullfillment take place.

I mean, if it's a parody, should it really be that close? Parody's are supposed to be funny and not to be taken seriously. So, it's kind of a oxymoron to want it closer to the original - unless the original was already farcical. Unless there's a lot of inside jokes, I get just as much out of them as not regardless of parody.

I like it better when it's close to original source, especially if it's Hermione. 😛😁😁
We need more HP games. Period.

If it doesn't look like the characters from the original then I don't see it as a parody. Or i guess I just kind of forget it is.

There's enough pre built, and often free out there that if you take a little time you can make them pretty close, so I don't see a reason not to, esspecially if your asking for money

Four element can just be really hard to follow in general.
