From my understanding Romeo and Juliet laws are for the situation of two minors dating and getting older

So for example two 17 year olds start dating, one has their birthday in January the other in October, for like 10 months an 18 year old is dating a 17 year old, but it's given leniency and not prosecuted since they were already dating before, it would be kinda dumb to tell them to break up for 10 months or something.

Of course I gave the example of two 17 year olds, but what what if one was 17 and the other 16? or 15? not sure if this is a defense the couple has to claim, or if it's fine so long as the parents don't press charges or something, don't know how much leniency there is.

That make sense, and to be honest even in Japan no one will worry about such short distance of age, but if the adult is let say 25 or something and date 16 years old, I am sure this will be problem, but if the minor is 17 I don't know if here they will worry. Maybe possible some USA states will prosecute, but I know, even though AOC is 16, this is a dodgy area. Even here it is largely prefecture rules than federal matter. Prefecture means state. Not totally different to USA, except USA has more age variants like 16, 17, 18. Especially harder for older guys/girls with these ages. I like people my own age, or I should say just one so far.

I actually know a guy who is in love with a girl age 16. He is in his 20s age and I looked things up and told him basically the same thing. He realise the age difference is problem, not just legally but how world will view it all, and agrees he and her will wait until she is 18. I 100% agree with this. After 18 no one can legally say anything. Especially when he live in USA, and the state he live is going to make some big problems if he was to date her. I notice some USA states are much more strict than others about the age of consent and cops in those state are pretty tough I hear. Bit scary to get on wrong side of law there. (or here even)
