For me, it's appearance, personality, and body type, in that order.
However, if this is an adult game, the order will be body type, appearance, and personality.
I think the important elements change depending on whether you're enjoying the story or not.

I have no "type" so its really case-by-case. I dont know what I like until i see it.

It also depends on the story. Sometimes I like a nice guy/girl, sometimes I like an asshole. really depends on the story and the other characters.

No type for me, just tend to like a character for what they are portrayed as. If the character is done well then I usually like them whether they are good or bad.

Obviously appearance is the first thing that catches the eye (I consider body type to be part of that package, not a separate entity). Then it's up to the story to keep me interested. Even the best looking character can fall flat if they are not developed well over time and/or if they turn out to be completely irrelevant to the story being told.

Intertwined does this really well. The characters are fairly good looking (although far from being the best), but they each have distinct personalities and roles to play in the overall story.

As long as the character isn't a Chad or Giga-Chad, I'll give them a chance...but whiny b's or stereotypical nerds are an automatic delete for me.

Lesbian and age are basic filters, i dont care about guys, dicklovers or old hags => archetype => personality => face => body
Bonus points for virgins, except for expired milfs and older or really fat girls (i dont care about some overweight, but if you cant even see if she shaved her pussy or not i'm out)

Appearance is important (assuming we specifically mean love interests here). But beyond that there's personality and verisimilitude. Does she seem like a believably real person? And is that person someone I'd actually want to know?

if you want to make a likeable character you have to make them with some point in mind people like people with dreams and goals these makeup most of what is perceived as the personality of a character

An appearance that makes them stand out and a personality that keeps you hooked.

I think the same. And include some things they are unsure about, so you can relate or want to help them with. That is always a big trigger for me to like and invest in a character

In AVN? Anything that breathes, sometimes even that is not a requirement when given a choice to grope a statue *cough* phasmohentaia *cough* 😅..
But yeah, body type and overall looks are the first thing to consider. Personality won't matter in a sex scene.

Personality first a foremost factor. If they are boring, or assholish, or creepy, or scummy then I immediately dislike them.

Opinions and beliefs is the second factor. If they have thoughts and feelings and beliefs that are contrary to my own I like them less. If these opinions and beliefs are also really retarded then it's a deal breaker.

Appearance is a third factor. If they are super generic, or are all over the place design-wise I lose interest. I like characters that have a small element of uniqueness to them without looking like they belong in the background NPC crowd or to an anime convention floor.

most of the time how a character looks is all I care about sometimes personality can make a difference if a character written well

I think the secret to liking a character is to make him/her coherent to the story.

Doesn't matter what type of personnality he/she has. As long as there is a starting point and an end goal to that character. He/she will fit naturally into the story and hence there will always be someone to like that character.

they dont make the game bad, and it doesn't feel liked a forced character

For me to like a character it all comes down to writing them well. Appearance is important of course but the main factor is being well written and likeable. Some examples of my favorites are the girls in stranded in space each of them is very unique and likeable in their own uniqueness. I also like MC from special request as the writer did a great job making me feel like I'm on her side going through the story of horror side by side.

Personality+visual, if they are both to my taste then its done

For me they just need to stand out , most often some models just blend together and look all the same in my head

A big one for me is they are written so they speak like actual people. Nothing turns me off a game faster when someone says something like "Ah yes, my dear, thou hast found my porn stash within my personal domicile. hehe. Has your sex moistened?" No. Absolutely no. Also, non-English speaking devs, female genitalia is never referred to as her sex. Please stop.

It's like that Leo Decaprio meme where he's pointing at the TV when you see someone using the default model and not making any appearance changes.
