That would still be a naturally developed harem.
Poly would mean they have- or are at least are allowed to have relationships and/or sex outside of the harem as well. The basic concept of a harem is collecting and keeping the girls for yourself, the natural development of a harem is the girls getting closer to each other, not only for 3somes or orgies but also without the protagonist. Poly removes the "in harem" restriction, even if they are still limited to other girls.

The problem is that most devs use "harem" as just the Mc fucking a lot of girls.
To be a real harem the Mc needs to be in a relationship with more than one woman, and all of them have to know and accept tha fact.

This "polygamy" tag would just reforce the comcept in a more especific way, to garantee that the devs don't use it wrong.

Yeh but you have a difference between, having:

1) harem you fuck everyone, they fuck nobody
2) harem you fuck everyone, and everyone in your harem can have sex with everyone else in your harem
3) poly relationship, you have a wife, and a Gf, and you wife has another BF, that might have a wife too.

I like the #2 the most. I think it's the most fair. And only one real dick, MC/ME

Have you tried Reunion? MC starts in a poly relationship with two women and then tries to convince the others to join in, to which they initially react with the kind of horror you'd expect from such a wild proposal.

As for why harem and not polygamy, my personal guess is that it's easier to write and justify, and when you're really in it for the sex, you don't need to over complicate it with marriage and legalese and all that stuff, when the story's far more likely to end long before that.

Again, people start to do defintions, like harem, is 1 mc that fucks lots of girls, but the girls don't touch each other...

Then Poly something, you have a wife/gf, and she has another BY, and you have other GF.

So what's a harem called, where the girls love each other, but don't fuck outside their group?

That last one is probably why you don't have poly tag often, because people start to complain about NTR and all its variations of it...
