im between in hunter x hunter (2011) and Steins;Gate.

Steins;Gate got so much right and more or less pioneered a genre. Big W's. Oh, and there's hacking to the gate to, I guess.... LMFAO

can't go wrong with studio ghibli films. well, maybe just ignore tales from earthsea.

Goro's up on poppy hill is great. Too bad about Earwig, well meaning bad cgi, bad story. Ronja the Robber's daughter which was made for tv and isn't Ghibli is actually decent.

Steins;Gate is probebly the only anime where i say: "ok, power through the first, BORING 5-6 episodes until the plot rly starts going, couse it is worth it"!

yeah i couldn't get through the first episode when it came out. gave it another go a few years later and i couldn't stop watching.

Takahata is a true master of film though, R.I.P. Princess Kaguya was sublime. Beautifully animated.

Nausicaa was Topcraft pre Ghibli, Castle of Caliostro was TMS and TOHO. Miyazaki was already a master of his craft.

I don't think Lupin has ever had a bad iteration, at least not that I have seen. Totally agree, miyazaki is just built different. He's like "fuck anime" also "here are 20 of the best anime properties of all time".

was, as you said "build different". sometimes there comes along a human beeing that is just more creative/has a bigger vision then the rest of us. miyazaki was one of them

Miyazaki's Lupin isn't Monkey Punch's though. The first film is a near direct translation of the manga. Mystery of Mamo, he isn't a white knight. The fantastic world of Cagliostro could easily fit Castle in the Sky/Laputa. Its a brother in spirit at least.

I just wanted to say thanks again for everyone who came in and talked about anime with me and others. Really cool to see some love on here... not always the case. For now, I am a pumpkin and shall be retiring, but I will be back periodically to check on our little anime family.
