Fellow deviants (and non-deviants who wandered in by chance....):

Why do we like what we like? What motivates our sexual preferences? Is it childhood experiences? Is it random?

Or is there an evolutionary basis for our kinks? How does homosexuality persist over evolutionary time? It's present in most of our great ape relatives and it's being discovered in more and more mammalian species. What selection pressures lead to it being preserved? And what about NTR? Why do so many of us hate it? Loli? or MILF? More evolutionary selection pressures at play?

I am trying to test my theory about what evolutionary selection pressures lead to various kinks. My hypothesis suggests that some kinks are going to be positively correlated with some others and negatively correlated with different kinks. And another group of kinks will similarly be positively and negatively correlated with other kinks and factors.

Help out a fellow pervert (that's perVECT!) and fill out the linked anonymous survey. The survey should take 10 to 15 minutes and I will be posting more of my theory for criticism and debate once I get enough survey responses.

This thread and survey has been approved and checked out by the moderators.

Hope to see the number of responses climb quickly (though please only take the survey one time. Multiple entries will (obviously) skew the results).

Please post here with any questions or comments. I think this is a topic that has the potential to generate a lot of discussion and debate, all of it friendly and collaborative, I'm sure.

Ok, I'm a bit confused.

Feels like so many variables are missing.
If you want to prove your theory that it is evolutionary. Don't you also have to disprove the current psychological consensus that kink/fetishes are created by the environment we grow up in from around age of 8 to around age of 16. And that strong fetishes is a way for the mind and body to process childhood traumas?
Also, the current theory that sexuality is a spectrum, and we as a society were repressed to believing that straightness and monogamy is the "norm" via the crusades and through-out the dark ages.

So I'm missing a lot of question about parents, upbringing, abuse, trauma, role models, schooling, home status, when we started having sexual interest/thoughts, masturbation, first sexual experiences and so forth.

I find it hard to see if this proves anything besides commonality amongst kinks, preferences and personality with us perverts.

OK, going too try to respond to all comments as best I can before I have to leave for work. More later.

1. Alex - Negative responses are just as powerful as affirmative ones, so, not boring. Either those answers will support my theory or they won't, and either result is just as interesting (as long as I actually publish my failure, which too many people don't).
2. Malaficus - I would never have guessed that you'd be into dominating women based on your name choice . I suspect that domination is not going to line up with the expected personality types. We'll see.
3. Harry - I know the survey is too damn long. If I'd had more time, it would have been briefer. (Attributed to lots of folks, including Churchill. Much older. Probably 17th Century and French in origin. I'll try to find the cite again.) I did want to list almost all the main kink tags on the site. I don't think many of them are relevant to my ideas, but some association may turn up that I don't expect, so hate to throw away potentially useful data. I really don't think it takes too long, but I did list 15-20 minutes in the intro for just that reason.

Figuring out the evolutionary basis of our kinks is a deep rabbit hole to dive into.

I'll list some stray thoughts.
Homosexuality: I think this has stuck around because the norm and pressure has always been to get a mate and procreate. Historically, we haven't had much choice, family/clan/whatever made it happen, because survival. And as a young man, you can get it up for anything.
As to why it persists, there are several reasons for children of gay guys having higher survival odds. There are several psychiatric comorbidities with homosexuality. Think about the overrepresentation among serial killers. A controlled ruthlessness is often a survival plus though. Also, gays seem to be on average more intelligent I think.

NTR: This is easy. As a man you have no way to know if your children are yours, hence the rigorous control of female sexuality that has been present in all societies throughout history. So most men have an instinctive aversion to strange dick around and in their woman. And, conversely, we have an inmate instinct to copulate with (almost) every woman we see.
Gengis Kahn as an example, is the direct ancestor to ~41 million people on the planet today (0.5 %)
For me, I actually feel a stab when I find out a woman I know, even remotely, could just be the regular cashier at Lowes, is pregnant and I'm not responsible for it. I may not even have any desire to sleep with her, and I certainly, 100% do not want any more children to deal with. I can use wifey's statement "I'll rather amputate an arm than have more children".
But, drive of nature is what it is.

Also NTR. Sexual arousal will often manifest itself as a release from reality, so they can go the opposite way from normal life. There's always been brisk business for dominatrixes to beat the ever loving shit out of high powered business, finance and political leaders for example.
So, NTR may be an escape from base instincts.
