A new cleanup update has been posted covering the recent Vault rework, rank changes, policy cleanup, and theme polish.
The goal is to make LC cleaner, easier to understand, and safer for the site going forward.

Ravager is one, though thats because I have no idea what the latest updates are, but they dont seem like enough for another playthrough.
Umm... pulling a blank for others. Oh, Personal Assistant - loved it, but the updates are taking a while and I'm generally just kinda "meh" on it now. Same for headmaster.
I don't remember playing Personal Assistant, so can't speak to that one.
The other two, Ravager and Headmaster (if I am remembering that one correctly), I would point out they are both sandbox-style games. In a sandbox, as the game gets larger - and they both are quite large by now - the same amount of content updated gets spread over a large field of storylines and characters. I'm not aware of how often Headmaster gets updated, but Ravager I do follow, and it is getting to "extra large" size. A regular sized update might include a lot of content along a path that I have not chosen to follow.
Ravager is also hand-drawn (or at least hand-designed). Takes a lot longer for updates with any good amount of quantity.

Oh I know. Those were two that just came easily to mind. And I don't fault the developers as I said earlier: I love the games. Well thought out, great stories, fun characters, great animation, etc. But they are creatures of their own success.

Absolutely agree with you. I'm someone that believes that games should have an ending for many reasons. Not only does it stop games becoming stagnant, but it forces more games to be made and gives players the satisfaction of both getting new games and getting the final feeling of completion.
I dropped Bad Memories yesterday for that shit. It still takes too long holding control - it stops every time there's a choice, including those stupid non-choices a lot of devs put in where you have one option. Also when they put in that minigame shit having to go through that again. Not to mention it's impossible to remember all the choices you made.
No, I never quit. Usually save compatibility issues occur early in development, in which case replaying is easy. Although I remember that Faerin changed something in the code when working on Myswood Manor at the stage of 45% readiness of the game, which led to breaking the previous saves, but it didn't cause negative emotions in me, I was happy to pass the game from scratch, because I liked it.
But it is possible that the game is simply a failure, and if the developer does not provide compatibility of saves, there is no point in messing around with such a game. However, I delete up to 80% of games at different stages of playthrough, because they are simply uninteresting, compatibility of saves has nothing to do with it.

Yeah, if it's early on, no real problem but if it's like hours worth of gameplay and you'll probably forget the choices you made (not to mention if you have to do stupid minigames again.)

If there are mini-games in a game or VN, I immediately send such a game to the trash. Unless the developer was smart enough to include the option to skip mini-games.
As for the incompatibility of saves in the middle stage of development, I can only think of one example I mentioned. I have not encountered the problem of incompatible saves in later stages of development. Unless, of course, the developer started redesigning the whole game from scratch - it happens (remember Summertime Saga) and very often it ends up with the game being "abandoned" at some point.

I play completed/finished games, so my saves work fine haha, if i ever played pre-alpha/beta/WIP versions then i start it over again to see how different it is lol
Nah i usually need a reminder anyway,, so a quick zip on who's who and the base of the story to jog my memory with the CTRL button is not a problem for me.
+ i tend to skip a update or 2 on a lot of games because i actually want some progress in the storyline as well and not just play for 200 lines of meaningful storyline text and a lewd scene.
If the story (writing) is real good then the reminder is not needed but then i don't mind playing it again.
As a example: Light Of My Life.... Updates are a long time coming but they are huge.. so i go and restart the game and play again near the release date of the new update.
I don't need the reminder but it helps with the immersion of the story, so it's not a dry jump into the new update and maybe miss things.
Side note... i have had that happen quite a few times that regular saves didn't work,, but loading a automated save,, say 2 or 3 back from the last automated saved worked just fine.

Nah i just plan ahead. Doesn't take that long.
As soon as all the little heads are almost full and naughty says it's it is ready for a testrun or proofreading i start.
That's completely impossible on any advanced game.
Everything is a variable. Enemy values, boolean checks if an object is in posession, if a door has opened, if a quest has been completed.
So you're essentially demanding every dev should know:
- exactly how many objects will exist in the final game and where and whether they require pickup booleans to determine whether of not they can respawn or disappear
- exactly how many doors, switches, etc. the entire game will feature
- exactly how many quests the game will have, what phases and conditions they will have
Essentially, you're expecting the game to me mapped out to such a degree in advance that the only way for a dev to actually completely plan this is to build the game in its entirety. And at that point, your issue no longer exists, because the game is done.
A work-in-progress game that is more than a straightforward Renpy game will always have savegame breaking. It's not possible nor feasible to anticipate literally tens of thousands of variables and booleans in advance while the game is just a hypothetical construct in someone's head.
Damn dude i didn't know you guys actually still existed, you are talking full on DND sandbox game Adult visual novel style there.
There are only a few of you left as far as i know. Respect.
The rest of us don't play that,,, we play the Adult visual novel kind.
Now i'm not ragging on devs. These are people that have the skills and writing capability to even start a endeavour such as a avn.
+ i don't really mind that much if i have to start over if the story's good or hold the CTRL for a couple of minutes for the lesser ones. (i explained my view of it a few posts up)
But.......
To me it seems a lot of new devs make that mistake as it happens way more with the "noob" devs.
So it seems like a failure of planning in the development of the novel by the dev(s).
Now if it is for a good reason like a complete re-encode so things can be or are added or taken out, or even a new feature in the game like a cellphone with new options in the phone,
you know, things that enhance the story or offer more immersion then for me i have no problem with it at all and don't see it as lack of planning.
The games you are talking about.......
The rest of us have various reasons for not playing the ones you are talking about.
Not gonna elaborate why i don't, this is not the thread for that. But we are talking about very different games here, all you describe is in none of the avn's we are talking about.
If i ever make a thread about sandbox avn's, title would be something like : All sandbox devs should be hanged from their privates with barbed wire
