Really depends. Some games have had great harem scenes, some have had amazing one on one.

Exactly, there is no final answer to that question, although MC +1/2 is good on average.
Sometimes a really big crowd fucking, fisting and licking everyone everywhere is fun, too.

Um... entertain each other until it's time to tag out? Women DO have tongues, fingers, and toys exist.... My "No sharing" policy only applies to other men, I'll share my girls with other girls, no problem. I mean, if they aren't into other women, yeah, that's makes the extra bodies a little less needed, but... It's a game playing on sexual fantasies, go for broke.

That being said, from a development/rendering view, it's a real bitch to set up and render well. Just like anything else, the more parts in the machine, the more opportunities for things to break down...

I mean... I won't turn down a good large group scene, but the best I think is MC +2.

A scene with just one partner is good, but can be improved with a little more spice. A scene with three partners is also good, but in general, two of them go off and do their own thing (which is fine, but you kind of have two mini-scenes going on then) or someone is just... waiting... which isn't very exciting. The sweet spot is with two partners. One can be interacting fully while another teases, or MC can be trying to keep two happy at a time. Or the two are helping each other (for MC's enjoyment, of course) which is also great. There's that little extra enjoyment that comes out of the fact that someone extra is there beyond the default vanilla M/F pairing. And, there's just diminishing returns once you increase the numbers beyond that.

Of course this is very contextual, but I personally would love a game where the male MC has scene where he impregnates his biological mother, his older sister, his twin sister, his little sister, and his daughter. So, MC +5. Complicated? Sure. Impractical. Definitely. But it literally covers all possible immediate family member incest kinks. I would also like one where the genders are reversed. So female MC plus her biological father, her older brother, her twin brother, her little brother, and her son.

I mean Lost & Bound starts in the demo with MC + 4 LI I could get in 1 more but that would be the limit until I get a new gpu
