I think this is gonna have quite a chilling effect for making these kinds of games in general.

I mean I think people now will be more careful and will actually look at what the law says in their countries but there are still quite a few places where it's 100% legal so you will eventually have devs creating new games like this. It might take a while until that happens since it hasn't even been a year since the whole thing happened but there are few devs that got really scared when the news broke, and they now they are working on their games again.

Under Australian law, there is no difference between real life porn and drawings. Virtual characters are treated as real life. Certain types of manga and anime are also illegal in Australia

If you read on Australian laws on porn, you will think some troll hacked the site. It boils down to:
1- Any porn must be controlled by the government.
2- The producer has to pay crazy taxes and you can only buy it in specific places.
3- It's illegal to sell porn you bought to a third party.
4- Any attempt to carry porn out of the city you bought it in is pretty much treated as sex trafficking.


If you read the original article on westy, he was depicted as a scapegoat of a failed police investigation that was following an actual issue, expend millions, but ultimately failed for some reason(literally said someone had tipped them about the game while looking for something else). By the next day the article was replaced by one that basically called him a monster while beating around the bush and giving no explanation whatsoever.

Westy only got charged due to someones else having his content open when they crossed a border with it on their laptop.

Anyone working on this game at the moment would not only affect his sentencing, but it could result in further charges as well. There is nothing anyone can do until after the sentencing in August.

As far as I know there isn't any information about the stalking and revenge porn charges. We will probably only know more in august when he goes to court again.
But even without those charges he is pretty much screwed. I would be surprised if gmhe gets anything less than 10 years.

Well, I am curious to see what the stalking and revenge porn charges are about. A few weeks ago, I got to thinking that, given that Australia treats fictional erotica with underage people (or with an underage appearance) the same as if they were real people..... Are the stalking and revenge porn targets also against fictional children? The mention of a "hidden camera" (I don't recall the exact phrasing) got me thinking further: The viewpoint in a 3D rendering software is technically referred to as a camera, and it's a "hidden" one (you don't actually see a physical camera). Revenge porn is mainly pornographic content made without the target's consent (and a fictional person can't actually give consent).

And yes, any country that treats sexual acts with fictional depictions of children (even virtual ones; either drawn or 3D modeled) the same as if they were real-life children, those are some f-ed up laws. Especially since fictional depictions of incest, violence, murder, and abuse aren't given the same treatment.

But the main problem now is fighting such laws, in particular after they've already been implemented. You'll just end up being the next target of investigation under those laws.
