Do you prefer to have to earn the gallery or do you want it all available to you right off the bat, and why?
I personally prefer to be able to access it all right away, I don't think it detracts much from the accomplishment of earning it.

Ditto. I want to know how many scenes, but I also want want hints to unlock in case I made the "wrong" decision that didn't unlock a scene. That way I can go back and unlock what I missed.

Hints on how to unlock the scenes is a great middle ground imo.

Honestly, the best way is a middle ground of both. Have it be locked by default, but also include a toggle/cheat that unlocks it for those who want to see it.

There are games that are kind of a waste of time in terms of porn (Not to mention the other aspects). After a while of playing one you kinda get a sense that it'll remain that way all thorough, but you never know for certain. Being able to check if there are any future scenes that look interesting or not can be a huge time saver.

Usually I only unlock the gallery after the first playthrough, and when an update breaks my saves.

Most games don't even have galleries. But I don't think I've seen any where it's unlocked. I would prefer it be unlocked though.

I mean, yes but not that much tbh. Most galleries only give you a preview picture you can click to get the actual scene, and most of the time that preview doesn't give you much insight about the story.

Like, "OMG, are you telling me the characters get to fuck in this porn game?" is not much of a revelation.

Development, sure. But I figure a lot of people would like to know if their favorite LI has any scenes, it's the kind of thing that makes or breaks if you want to play now or wait for a further update. Or heck, even skip the game altogether.
