Not really. You can sleep with a few more characters, but no real story / plot development yet. You're still locked out of the Nexus in the latest update.

I have v.20.5 and I think the MC's auntie is still his auntie there. If I want to retain family relations (bear in mind I'm not even on 'Book 2' or whatever it's called yet), should I retain that version?

I may be wrong but since previous version (20.8 maybe 19.8 not sure?) lots of scenes in dungeon and "incest" was removed. Something with Patreon strikes as I know
But honestly there never ever been pure incest like all expected ) There are he`s long ago died mothers friend? who insist to call her "auntie". But she`s not really. And some episodes between not related to MC persons... That`s all.
So IMO the inc tag here and especially now is not needed any more...

I think the same thing, this game is the prime example that too many characters just ruins the game, focus on max 4-5 and maximuse the content of those characters instead of spaming people you get 1 scene with...

I suspect it's to do with how it's fairly similar models and it ends up just being reused scene with mildly altered models. Rogue like uses the exact same method to make scenes.
So it creates the illusion of content when in reality, it's just bloating the character base and stalling for time.
I guess that's to do with development schedule and the fact this game is focused on tons of small updates rather than any one bigger update. This means adding something like a whole chapter of the story becomes more difficult because it needs to be split apart and introduced in small chunks.
