His games aren't normally my style, but I keep coming back to Talothral's games...

I loved Sorcerer. Is this as good? And is there enough content to deserve a first playthrough?
I am enjoying this more than I did Sorcerer. The storytelling is tighter, the MC is less clueless at the start, the supporting cast are less dominant over the MC (I liked Miyuki in Sorcerer, but she was a bit prone to running roughshod over anything the MC was going to do, if she felt it would benefit him more for her to), and the harem members seem much happier being in a harem (talking about Miyuki and Susan from Sorcerer here). Shani is also a significantly better primary lover/harem queen over Miyuki.

As for content, there's a decent amount of story so far. At least a couple hours of story so far, the hints of a couple conspiracies, good establishment of the MC's situation and the situations of most of his companions. Lewd content is ~1 scene per update, if that matters to you, but that's never been the thing that draws me to a Talothral game.

I know exactly what you mean. I still hate his "animations", but I enjoy the stories and characters so much that it doesn't matter, I still want to play each update.

Been an intersting game so far. Will keep playing.

I think this could develop into a good story. Not my usual type of VN but enjoying it so far.

Just a Monday Progress Report from Talothral
Progress 08.04.2024

Hello all!
I'm not sure where to start, actually. Didn't sleep that well, so mind is foggy. But rendering is going well. Render count wise, this isn't a huge update. Overall, there aren't that many moving sequences without dialogue.

Writing is in good shape, that shouldn't come to surprise to anyone. I like to write.

And a character concept. Grand Chancellor Uden and his familiar. Don't worry, he doesn't care for the title either. I considered the dire wolf as a familiar to Tomas. But it has issues. First it's heavy thanks to the fur it has. It isn't as bad as it used to be, but I wouldn't have been able to use him as often as I've been with Nisha. Second, posing. I haven't tracked it down, but posing gets distorted if you move the figure. But he is fine for most static scenes. So why did I do this? I think I've said it before, but visualising characters helps to write them, it gives them... it's part of who they are, what they look like, how they move. And little things like that. I help to build the right presence for them.

P.S. And for those who worries about my sleeping. It's normal, I do suffer from insomnia on top of few other myriad annoyances that occasionally hinders my sleep. And once the update is handed testing I'll take some extra time to sleep and just relax... and write, I know myself, I'll write regardless as it is one my ways to relax.

Just a few notes for anyone unfamiliar with Talothral's games:
  • Talothral (the game's developer) is not on this site, so he will not see comments made here about the game. His Discord is far and away the best method of providing him feedback.
  • Talothral's games all have the same form of "animation": still renders in sequence with litlte to no dialogue, with 1-second pauses between each (configurable in some of his games; I forget if that was implemented here or not). This is true of action scenes and lewd scenes, and even many scene transitions. This means you can click through them to make them go faster, but you risk missing dialogue that way. It's been an annoyance with his games from the very first one, but given how long it's been (and the three successful games he's completed with this workflow and "animation" method), it is highly unlikely he will change this at this point.
  • Talothral LIs and lewd scenes tend to come relatively easily, but other decisions made during the game do make differences for the ending. The walkthrough tends to be highly reliable, though (because Talothral gives cues to the WT modder in his code comments).
  • Be aware that, while the main six LIs in this one (so far) are relatively normal (sizes and curses notwithstanding), Talothral LIs tend to include a much wider range of "attractive" than fits most people's opinions. For instance, while Sorcerer had mostly human and human-like LIs, there were also some weird ones (troll, hag, ifrit, rakshasa, an entire hive of gorgons, etc.). Both Terminus Reach Sentinel games had great characters, but I found most of the alien LIs very weird-looking and not remotely physically attractive.
  • Since some LIs are important for the best endings in his other games, it's probably a good idea to go full-harem (for main LIs, at least) in this game if you want an eventual good ending. If you don't want to see sex scenes with a particular LI, the MC is usually able to decline the actual scenes without hurting the relationship (or the ending).
For me, the story and characters are what draw me to a Talothral game, not the lewd scenes. Depending on how attractive the LI is and how inventive the scene is, I may watch parts of it, but I haven't made it through a single Talothral lewd scene in ANY of his games without turning on Skip Unseen and speeding through parts of it with Ctrl.
This is a good heads up.

I was a fan of the dev's previous game the sorcerer. I will try this game out hoping that it also delivers

Don´t follow the dev. But it feels, this game is in it´s early middle. After reading the sorcerer. So more to the delivering to come.
But as far as it goes it is as good, even better then sorcer imo.

i really recommend playing Terminus Reach Sentinel too same dav's and it have a great story 😇
Thanks for the recommendation, I might try it out after the grind is over. haha

That is good to hear considering I loved the sorcerer. I will play the game when I have time

Given the length of Sorcerer and each Terminus Reach: Sentinel game, it feels more like we're still quite early on. This was the 10th major update, and of his other games, Sorcerer reached 38 major updates, and TRS2 reached 40 updates. I can't find prior updates of TRS1 to find out how many total updates it had.

That said, I completely agree about this feeling like his best one yet. I already like all the characters, and it's a good setup with a different feel to the dynamic than either Sorcerer or TRS.

Story is very interesting. Models are good too, but that isn't even the best part
