For every game there is the possibility to send a game rating based on stars along with a comment or fully fledged review. This is extremely useful, still very few people do that. If it was used consistently it could help finding or selecting games you might want to play. You could follow a user's ratings if you find him/her rating games similar to your taste. It could help cleaning the game threads so they could emphasize on discussion on content, updates etc.

Instead we have the threads flooded with one liners commenting that the game is great or awful with free discussions in between. And the few ratings given don't really give a representative view.

Is this feature of game ratings not known or visible from a UI perspective?
Is it simply not wanted or nobody cares what others might think?

What is it? And if you agree it should be used much more, as I do, how to promote it?

Because you are forced to write a review and people are too lazy for that

I like giving a try to low rated games. maybe theres a diamond somewhere in there.

True, I've already lost a lot of interesting things because of a poorly made cover.

This is exactly why I haven't been using the rating system. But I guess this might be the perfect time to start rating a few games...

I'm guessing people either don't know about reviews, are too lazy to do one, or just can't put a cogent sentence together.

I've done reviews on other sites but haven't done much here yet because I wasn't even sure if the developers would ever read/see them. Also I feel a bit off writing a long review when everyone else is using one liners.

Ratings are odd, especially for games in development, a game can start off fantastic and fall short fast, or start slow and become awesome a bit later (and sometimes after a bit of restructuring). Ratings are most often given with a certain version in mind, and therefore aren't really trustworthy.
IE. Episode 6 hotfix 2 was awesome and had a really good track, but then Patreon went nazi and game had to be rebooted with not-so-likeable models (sure the loli is 5ft 6inch and is definitely 18 now, if not older). So the 5 stars from Episode 6 hotfix 2 was probably somewhat warranted, but now not so much.

I much prefer to read some comments on the game/avn/vn thread, then play it myself than use ratings/reviews to see if I like it.

Yep sums it up, i just wanna give it a rating and go back into the darkness. Lately i have been active in general discussions but that a has reason, i set a goal and i'm gonna reach it no matter the cost 😂 but who knows unless it is a really good game, Time will tell i guess🤷‍♂️

Yeah, unfortunately it is quite some work with no immediate reward.

Well, if the rating includes a short proper review it provides an overview of the game much faster than scanning through all the comment pages. Finding useful comments is sometimes really hard.

Well there is that, however I don't really do reviews that much these days. I read a few random pages then sometimes cross check against a review but I mean we all do things differently.

Laziness is definitely part of it. Skepticism that the game you're rating now will be the same game when (if) it's completed might be part of it. I think people already having rated stuff on the other site and (back to laziness) don't care to do it again, especially for older games that were completed or abandoned long ago.

You can rate games!?
Every game page shows a five star rating for the game. You can click on any of these stars, for example on the fifth star if you want to give the game a five star rating, then you get forwarded to the rating page, where you can (and should) add a more detailed review.

Not the most obvious way, and maybe also a reason why it isn't used that often

Only allows me to rate games if i give them a review - is that because i am not a member yet? Would be more happy to give star ratings if i didn't have to review each time.
