discussion Why does search not work?

Looking for assets, so I do the simple search with a keyword "in this thread" when I'm in that area, and the results come back exactly the same as with no search.
Ok, so I try doing an advanced search, with the Assets thread ONLY selected, use a search term, and still all posts show up.
I do the same thing, this time searching by tag. Still ALL posts show.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix?

Simple because the search function is bare-bones and not that accurate.

You'll have to wait for a site upgrade or hope the admin buys a better plugin.

Search is something that's borked with search on most sites, in my opinion.

Even with the "almighty" Google: I put in search IN QUOTES "[ONLY THIS THING]" i.e. in my mind you HAVE to have those terms to be in results.

And then pages upon pages show up. I click on the page. Can't find anything. CTL-F search [ONLY THIS THING] in case I missed it on the page.

No matches.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong... but if Google STILL shows me "no pages in the entirety of the internet match what you said" 10% of the time and 90% is a page where the words I put in quotes (or star, or whatever it was at the time) AREN'T THERE... well... a private porn site has no chance with its search engine.

It's why I'm one of THOSE people that rarely uses search... I mean... why should I?

Ya I tried that too.
For me search doesn't just not work well, it doesn't change the results from just fewing the thread at all.
