What made you all start reading/playing AVNs? How did you find good places to share and talk about your interest?

I wanted to talk about what made me become such a huge fan of adult visual novels and just VNs in general. First one I ever read was Nekopara Vol. 1. Introduced to me from a random guy in a now dead forum probably over ten years ago. I'll admit, I was a complete horny fuck back then who only cared about the sex scenes and always skipped the story lol... It was not until around 2018-2019 when I realized they had a lot more to offer than just a quick fap.

I can't even remember how but I found Fuck95 and now I read almost every day. Summertime Saga is what made me fall in love with 2D and Man of the House did that for 3D. In just a few years the technology has gotten so amazing and the visual prowess of some of these stories is amazing. For me though, it takes a lot more than pretty visuals to get me interested... My favorite genre would probably have to be mystery or noir. I love unraveling deep plots and being surprised by where a story's mystery will take me.

I got started with Jap games from DLsite and ofc Illusion and just wandered aimlessly into western AVNs.

The first adult game that i recall was probably Corruption of Champions, tho that wasnt so visual, it was completely text based with some minor images added later on. The 1st visual games i remember were probably those old flash games from Lesson of Passion. I think back then i got games from TFGames.

Oh yeah, I remember CoC! I rarely see any great text-based stuff anymore. Though I would probably struggle to read it these days with being spoiled with great visuals now.

It has been a while since I read a Jap VN. My first Illusion game was R Lay lol... Crazy to see the response that got when it first came out compared to some of the wilder stuff these days.

My first was a corruption-style game with really poor graphics and game flow, but because I didn't know any better I thought it was awesome.

Tenchi Muyo is pretty good. That and stuff like Inuyasha got me into manga.

Heck yeah, the good ol' days of manga and anime. I liked how there were anime/manga for both kids and adults at the time. Now they seem to try to mix the two. Super kamen boy in middle school saves the planet.... lol I know a lot of good anime still come out, but I can't help but reminisce about the Golden Boy "golden days"

I came to these types of forums due to a comment from a YouTuber on one of these forums, which led me to discover this world that was unknown to me until not long ago.

my first VN was But I’m the Bad Guy.

Good question I started reading hentai comics the found a few Japanese AVN's. It's hard to remember the names as this was before they got more popular. Most dealt with incest and harem, and then came the dreaded NTR wave that's now popular.

Bad Guy is a decent read. For your first read that one steps straight into the deep end lol!

Netorare has always been a no go for me. Though I have found some Netori stuff to be a good read.

The first adult game must've been one of those Lessons of Passion, maybe ten years ago. Then Akubars Princess Trainer. And after that came all the rest.
Ok, if I am to be completely honest, the very very first adult games I played were Custers Revenge on a friends Atari 2600 and Sex Games on my Commodore. You kids today don't know how lucky you are.....

HAHA, yes my friend that train never stopped. In fact, people STILL pay for their website! I think my favorite was the meet and fuck world cruise.

I guess it would be Japan Adult Visual novels with mosaics, those romance games whatever you call them. Probably the first non Japan one is Dreams of Desire, or Sisterly Lust. Might have been some earlier ones i can't remember the Japanese ones were adapted to non H anime i just can't remember the names.

That's actually very surprising to hear, truly a pioneer, good on them for being early to the market though lol

I actually started with a site named "Gamcore" iirc, where you could play many games online (without download), then I tried downloading some of the games featured there and came across.... that other site. Oddly enough, I don't remember which was my first one

Indeed, they sort of figured out that making a bunch of ok games, was a strategy as well. Looking back though... those proportions :ROFLMAO:

Back in the day Japanese games really dominated the market. From my understanding they've basically had adult computer games since computer games became a thing, and AVNs are probably the #1 selling genre of computer games over there. (Whereas adult games from big companies basically don't exist in the West at all)

The few Western indie games I did try were not impressive to me. Then something lead to me trying Good Girl Gone Bad, and I was stunned by how well that game was done. And that lead to me finding Fuck95, which lead to me discovering a ton of high quality games that I had no idea were around.
