Many games use the same assets, clothes models locations. some devs try to make it unique but others don't bother. Take the clothes shop for example:

Almost every game has it, I personally find it funny and I like it (it's like a trope at this point). What about you? Does it break immersion?

It's funny when you notice it. But it gets boring after seeing the same assets over and over again, although I don't mind it that much.

Main reason why I prefer games w/ Drawn Art. At least you'll know it's gonna be unique. The only problem with drawn art, is it's RARE to find games w/ high quality/good art. Specially when it comes to animations.
And of course the main problem, drawn art will always take significantly more time to create compared to 3d renders so there will always be more waiting time.

Agreed, very few games have actually good 2d art and even fewer with custom 3d art (only Light Of My Life comes to mind)

Ahh. Then I would like to recommend the 2 games by 395Games, Mist(Completed) & Covenant of Morn(On-going)
They're both custom made in Blender so you'll know they're unique to just that game. They aren't pure VNs tho, so if you hate Sandbox games then you might not like it, but the sandbox aspect isn't one of the terrible ones though so there's that.
Would really recommend it for the art alone. Probably story too I guess.

I don't mind it if the story is actually original / interesting

It sucks if it's just a lazy fuck fest with reused assets though

The only thing that matters to me is the character models

As a dev I will say it is hard to find something different and unique all the time. There are a limited number of assets out there to use/buy. I try to find and use ones I haven't seen before or customize them a bit to work for my game theme better. Some assets you can modify slightly to give it a different look or feel, but some you are limited in on the customization options.

Overall it doesn't bother me to see similar locations, but it would be nice to see more options.

This is basically my opinion as well... When I first started getting into these games, I really didn't mind, but the more I play... The more I notice the same assets, and it just hurts my immersion. Not to mention when games are trying to say they're in a Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Post-Apoc/etc and use assets like... Offices, Lounges, etc... I have since moved to absolutely loving hand-drawn, to the point that DAZ actually puts me off... but Hand-drawn is, understandably, very taxing on Game Devs and a whole other task in the development cycle entirely.

Personally don't care as well as it's done well

as others pointed out, I only mind when the models are very much alike especially the romancable characters.

I cant ask a solo dev that makes a porn game for almost free to have unique assets AND a nice story AND nice models. To me, backgrounds and assets are a commodity, not a priority. If the devs go the extra mile and got unique assets, thats great, that shows dedication and gives the game a more polished look.

I really annoys me in real games when i find some rely heavy on shop assets, or are just asset flips. An AA or AAA game that is 20$ or more with copied assets, that gets me mad.

I don't mind as there's a limited number of assets out there. If the dev goes the extra mile and modifies the asset, I'm more inclined to think they're serious about their game.

The thing about the example given (the clothing store) is that the situation CAN happen in REAL life. Go into a chain store and you will find the same clothes displayed in the same or similar locations. Heck, go into 83 different Fast-Food places (of the same chain) and by the end the people behind the counter will start looking the same as well. :)

OK, I do wish that there would be more variety but understand that options are VERY limited. We can hope that over the next several years the number of available assets will increase (and options for placement as well) to the point that Devs can avoid duplication. Of course, since most adult games are focused on Characters (and SEXY fun) the EASY pre-made locations will probably STILL be used A LOT.

Just a thought.

truth be told, there are many free assets floating out there, from figures to hair, clothes and enviroments. you can find for free ( or with little cash) pretty much everything.
it does require a bit of search but its there.
that is why I strongly advise any new developer to spend a little time and learn programs like blender.
the dev of Mist and Children of the morn, made pretty much everything from scrap. you may have to buy a couple of addons like for example simplycloth for better cloth simulation ( though the build in physics are already very good), but in general there is little you cant do.
plus there is no need to be afraid of combining software, like daz and blender. with official bridges or the free addon that exists you can set up a scene in daz, throw it in blender and transform it to whatever you wish.
it just takes some effort but it will pay out down the line. plus you can always sell your creations to other people and add to your income pool.

It doesn't really bother me so long as the story and characters are good, and several others have already mentioned for me it is kind of funny when I even notice it.

It really annoyed me at first. But then the annoyance went away, I just turn a blind eye to it (especially if the game turned out to be good).

Depends. If it's a location that only appears once or twice it makes sense. Why waste time on the location look.
Now if it's a location that the player has to see often then change the thing up and really make it unique.
I'm not outright against using popular assets, just need proper thought to the use. Gonna be throw away cool, better to put time into important stuff.
However if it's used in a important manner I'm gonna thing the game is gonna be shit. If a dev is not gonna put in effort for an important item then it's likely that will be the case with the rest of the game.

I don't mind it, don't think I've ever played two games where I even noticed. I wouldn't want it used on different people in the same game.

I think it's a time saving thing. It's ok, if the dev invests the saved time into story, animation, characters etc.
