Is it just me or since the Westy incident things went downhill? Like a lot o devs changing their games just to put a basic disclaimer. Before all this we could input the ages of the caracters as we liked, now is all set on stone and this regarding the sinners games

Well, the entire Westy situation set a very scary precedent for a lot of devs... If I was busy developing a game with characters of.. questionable legality.. I'd probably decide to take the safer path too.

Obviously it depends on where you live - not all countries would bother with freakin' pixels / games regarding this stuff; but if you're a developer in a country that took a harsh stance against it.. ye.. I wouldn't risk jailtime over a project either.

(Plenty of games get a ''unofficial mod'' anyway that will put certain functionality back in though)

Developer of the game Proud Father - got arrested (in australia) for creating and distributing the game, containing characters that were underage basically.. Which is against the law in Australia.

Oh jesus. Didnt know that. Poor guy. Makes sense though, Australia in particular loves to make people believe in a freedom of expression that absolutely does NOT exist there, and that country is notoriously censorious.

Thing is that incident gave visibility to these kind of games and now they are being target from everywhere, this new system and rules are because one of these was reported

Yeah, that Westy incident scared the shit out of many devs. Really sad to see all the smols suddenly turning into teens or even adults.

Also the disclaimer "Everybody is 18+" is worthless, just a self-told lie for devs to self assure them everything is okay.
It's if you say "Yo, but no homo!" while getting fucked in the ass by a burly dude and liking it. Sure buddy, sure.

Speaking of that crew, Are we ever getting a Whispering Pines 2?

True, but that applies if you live in Australia (at least at the moment), don't see why a dev not living there have to smother tha game (and yes, i'm thinking about family faring)

Interesting comparison for sure

I am not surprised tbh. Even if you are not found guilty, going to trial or getting arrested for something like this is a ugly rep.

Like I wrote, everbody got scared and that was probably part of australias plan, they wanted to make an example out of Westy. It was clear by how this arrest was portrayed, as if he would lure minors with toys into his house. Showing pictures of typical nerd/geek toys, a mattress without any bedding, just like you would see in crime shows.

But it's also that Patreon and others are stricter then ever, making money with smols isn't as easy as it was. I think Family Faring did it primarly for the money.

I still find it pretty ridiculous that these people get so worked up over a bunch of pixels. Its not like there are any actual victims.

Seath said that SWP will be finished but don't have a date because the other games get all the attention, and SWP 2 is almost impossible

But don't you know? "Everbody who likes this are REAL P*D*S!!!" 🤪

As if those people would need to get off of pixels, when they can get the real stuff in the d*rknet. 😒

Actually in Australia (and some other countries) these pixels are considered "alive" in legal terms. They're basically living beings, just under a pixel form.

To be fair, it was bound to happen eventually no? As others mentioned, Australia has always been stupidly into censorship for decades, just look at the video game industry. Furthermore, since several US states have started various political bullshits around porn in general, it wouldn't surprise me if one of you mfers was a fed.

As can be seen in the award winning documentary Pixels.

All this because the lesson givers are in reality those who do not differentiate between games and reality. I played Counter Strike for years, but I was never a "terrorist" and even less a SWAT member.
This is absurd.
