I can't for the life of me remember the name, but I remember there existing a text based game about playing as the villain against groups of magical girls/boys that were randomized in appearance and connection to each other, with the option of customizing them.

If anyone could give me a name or point me in the right direction that'd be super helpful!

There are apparently several different versions/forks of the Era games, the main two being EraTohoK (aka EraK for short) and EraTW (aka AnonTW). I'm not totally sure what the deal with that is, to be honest, but there is a useful discussion of the different versions on a wiki here:

Seems like the Western translations of the games were related to the Touhou project fan translation efforts on ULMF site. You know, hardcore anime fan stuff.
