What do people think of the game?

I like the overall quality but the monstermen aren't to my liking.

Good animations with bad gameplay. What turned me off the most was the MC and his stupid sex jokes

have second that voice acting from mc was big turn off.
off topic but submit a bug report for negitive LC then redeem the code for 150lc. even if you dont want it you can give it to someone who wants M+ but doesnt have the coin yet.

Back on topic. Ya I really hated the MC and game play was kind of a buzzkill. The studio did good with getting voice actors and recording lines, making content etc my issue was just that the content was lackluster. I understand that they were trying to go for a 1990's perverted anime protagonist but that era is gone and dead.

I was so hyped for this game but was disappointed when it finally released. it has a high production value quality to it but the bullet storm / xcom esque game play and limited sexy time was underwhelming.

they got over 1mil$$$ and refused to add a female protagonist, lesbians, normal bestiality, cute /beautiful (not ugly) characters, just another milking-porn-game, reminded me of Star Citizen lol

the worst male protagonist i've ever seen ngl, they could just remove it and let us play as one of the girls

same, the gameplay is weird and lacking hentai scenes, it seems grindy af and space battles are lame, no actual "battle fuck", i didn't like this weird "professional" voice acting, doesn't sound natural, people don't speak like that irl

This User is on vacation. Response time may be delayed. Vacation to Dec 31, 2105.
I think they got lost between their animation and a game.

Both gameplay systems are tedious and uninspired. A superficial copy of games that use arcade shooters & tactics games but none of the meat. There's not really a lot of decision making, so you cannot really pull of cool stunts or clever combinations that feel rewarding. So gameplay is just a grind, something to do over and over again in the same fashion.
This is worsened by the one-dimensional progression system. Basically you just get bigger stats. Good progression systems need to evolve the gameplay, offer more choices that alter the way you play the game. Games like Hades, for instance, are incredibly varied and picking upgrades feels rewarding because you design things towards a direction where you feel the gameplay change as you play.

The story is pretty much a 08/15 story that doesn't take itself seriously. The problem with that? I gets really hard to form emotional connections to characters and the overarching goals & obstacles the narrative presents.
In Mass Effect you WANT to be successfull in your missions and you feel companionship to your companions.
The protagonist, the characters, their motivations & the way the world works doesn't pull you in, because you don't really suspend your disbelief. You know it's all just a corny joke.

The animations are HQ, but non-interative and don't really pull you in. You click through the stages and done. There's no meaningful conversation that creates an actual connection to what's shown.

Basically Subverse is a HQ Mass Effect spinoff that features arcade & tactical combat without any of the things that actually make the ME universe and characters to compelling and without a gameplay that's actually engaging or rewarding.

So a very, very polished disappointment I had much higher hopes for.

They had to actually pay developers and voice actors and that costs real money, I'm surprised they did as good as they did for their budget. My issue was they didn't have direction to turn their concept to turn into a good game. I like the idea of a Tenchi Muyo or a Love Hina-esque game the problem is they didn't seem to have any Idea of what to do beyond sex in space. The gameplay was bad and took away from the experience, it seemed like an after thought and I don't blame the VA's they probably were given lines to record on their own. They should have had actual studio time with a director and other actors in the booth play off of and actually interact together. I think a higher budget game like this could have worked if they didn't follow the indie early access model and instead designed the gameplay and social elements first then fill in the gaps with the sexual stuff.

In their defense, Studio FOW is best known for doing parody 3d animations. This is their first game and $1mil is not really alot of money to develop a game given the overheads of VA, graphic designs, ui etc.
also, when it was announced, I was hyped that it was going to be a pornofied version of mass effect, which would cost a heck of a lot more than what they raised.
imo, the character designs of the girls were fine, and the droid made me want AI to advance to the point where i wanted my own sexbot. lol.

the gameplay and sexy time was what disappointed me. it felt like they took the easiest, laziest option and made the sex locked behind a grindy progression mechanic that had nothing to do with the story.
plus the dialogue felt like it was written by a horny 15 year old with no actual real life experiences.

Backed the game on kickstarter and only recently played the game(recently being a few months ago).
The girls are gorgeous, the animations are great. Don't care about the alien/bestiality. Don't care about the gameplay or story. Just downloaded a save file and watched the animations.
