Hello everyone!
I am very excited to announce that the Prologue public release of my visual novel, Jazzy Times is finally here! You can download it for free from the attachment. I've also included a promotional wallpaper from a scene in the game for you to use!
This has been a passion project of mine for the last few months, and I am thrilled to finally share it with you. Jazzy Times is a coming-of-age story set in the vibrant city of Apollonia, in the span of a year. You will play and shape the MC as he navigates family, romance, and finding his own place in the world.
What can you expect from Jazzy Times?
There will be, of course, though not at the present moment. I want it tastefully done and with a believable and slow build up. Ever heard of Katawa Shoujo? That was my inspiration for it. I want the romance to feel natural and earned, not just tacked on for the sake of it. I believe part of the fun in a romance plot is getting there since it makes it feel earned.
Any other inspirations for your game?
I always liked the Persona series, and I thought it would simply be a natural integration of KS and Persona into a single game. Persona has its battles, social links and social stats; and KS has its story. The mechanics of Persona outside of its battle aspect just seem like such a nice blend into a Visual Novel that I had to try making something like it with personal stats, social links, exploration, and developing meaningful relationships. Why not give the player a chance to involve themselves with the story not only textually and visually, but also mechanically by allowing freedom of exploration? I want to give players agency and allow them to shape the MC to a certain extent, and their relationships.
How often do you plan to release new builds?
That's a really valid question. I am a solo developer, and I just started my donation accounts, so devoting myself to full-time development is a bit difficult since I have to work other jobs instead of making game development my full-time work. Once a certain number of subscriptions and donations is achieved, I will be able to support myself through game development alone, and dedicate my full time and attention to the game. That is not to say I won't be posting, because I will post! I promise to keep patrons updated on the game's progress, but giving accurate estimates until the next update is a bit difficult. My goal is to release the next build (Following my release of the Prologue) with the start of act 1 around May 2025, but if I finish it sooner, then I will release it sooner.
