I only read stuff there, the site sucks and the mods are power tripping pieces of garbage that think they matter because they work for free.
Fuck Spez.

low karma threshold is mostly a bot reduction tactic but it is dumb, botting is out of control every were *gestures widely*.
i mostly stopped using it after the third part app death, its funny then i was on their more it was always people trash talking the kinda people who use other sites, now that i only go their a few times a month i feel that way about the people on Reddit lol
i think all social media creates little culture bubbles that look and feel weird if you leave them.

It's usually bots. Not even actual moderators. Most subreddit moderation is done by bots.
They have bots that check your karma, the subreddits that you are active on, how many times you said a slur (in or out of context), etc. You can be banned from a lot of subreddits for just posting on a subreddit that they happen to not like. Even if your post is a criticism of the latter subreddit.

I think reddit is good as long as you're a passive consumer and not actively engaging with the content being posted. That's the only way to avoid power-tripping mods who moderate every single top 100 subreddit somehow.
Also if you spend a long enough time on most popular subreddits, you'll see that a good portion of their active users are... You guessed it, bots. Catchy headlines, recycled content that has been already posted 300 times over. Everything to get that sweet sweet karma.

This is going to possibly show my age but more so my lack of knowledge when it comes to idk the internet i guess but what is the point of bots? what do they achieve? everyone always talks about bots. i have heard about bots i think it was helping scalpers buy up hot tickets to resell and shoes and i get those they are helping "unscrupulous" people make money. but this whole bots on reddit and twitter i have never understood the point behind it what do you gain?

i dont have an account and it's annoying having to search reddit on mobile, because it always tries forcing you to download the app

Used reddit since 2011 but honestly the site turned into hot garbage MANY years ago but use it for specific subreddits for anime/game news and memes. I feel the same way w/ twitter too honestly.

So in my original post, I should have probably made the distinction between the different types of bots.

Moderators use moderation bots. These are permitted by reddit as they help people manage the insane amounts of content generated each day. The objective is to minimize human intervention and reduce the risks of the subreddit being reported for either being unmoderated and/or allowing ToS breaking shit. In both cases, the offending subreddit would get shutdown by Reddit admins. These bots cannot earn karma nor post on subreddits they haven't been specifically allowed to post on.

The second type of bots on Reddit, and probably not the only, but the most prominent are bots that do not follow the ToS. They use regular user accounts, try to act like regular users but all their posts are automated. The objective is to earn the most amount of karma in the least amount of time. They do that by reposting content that has proven to work on other subreddits over and over again. By earning enough karma, they can then later bypass some of the moderation checks (like karma checks mentioned by OP) and post ads, phishing links, scams, etc.

Some people take this an extra step further and create bot farms. They spin-up as many of these bots as possible, then sell them to other people who have a purpose for them.

There are many different use cases for bots but I hope the few I have given made it clearer for you.

Thank you that helps me understand things better.

Thanks that explains things better for me. seems like it still comes down to money or influence.

Can't really use reddit because it's banned in my country

I'm on there, but nowadays like 90% of the reason is just to use it as a news aggregator. Sort subreddit threads by new, and you can catch stuff before mods and brigades get their sleazy little claws on it and delete it or downvote it into oblivion.

Thats ok, i completely understand. can you get x formerly known as twitter at least? i feel like they are both very similar in my eyes at least due to user uploaded content and the abilty to pass information as it happens, except now twitter/x has very little moderation at least from some of the stuff i have seen posted, and reddit seems to be both very unmoderated sometimes or straight up overmodderated where mods go crazu with power and if you go against there vision you get banned.
