The other day I read someone reacting to a game with "ugh, Daz3D models" - which I thought was weird, because it doesn't get much better then that (if done well).

Honey Select looks super fake to me, and I hate how the 'men' look like children who took a sharpie to the face.

What's your opinion? Which do you prefer, and do you hate the other?

Let's assume the best of both styles, because of course there's also very badly implemented Daz3D. Although even that looks better than most Honey Select to me.

HS1 is absolutely vile. HS2 can look good, but something about it just rubs me the wrong way. I don't know if it's just poor implementation or what, but I can only remember playing a handful of HS games. I find it quite off-putting.

Theres good examples of both, but honeyselect definitely hits that uncanny valley a lot more frequently. Daz at least has the potential to look like an actual human most of the time.

Daz3D for for sure. I like more realistic look, even with few of the 2D games I've played. Honey select just look like plastic dolls and everyone pretty much look the same. You can't tell which one is mother or daughter looking at their face. You just know the overly curvy and tall one dressed modestly is the mother.

HS is still far better than koikatsu tho...

Exactly. It is odd that some of the most popular games are HS, though.

It generally takes a lot more effort to make DAZ look great, while HS looks okay out of the box. So it really depends on how much time is spent on the renders.

I think if they but some more time on HS then they can look rely god. but its not many that pull that of, only seen a few.
And tho be honest i think it's 2 different styles.

Daz3D in first 2d in second

Daz for realistic-ish aesthetics. HS for stylized aesthetics. Both can look gorgeous.

The problem with HS is that it's way harder to make it look really nice. Or maybe it's so easy to slap together a few props and hastily made characters that most devs who use it put no effort into it.
Pale Carnations is a good example of good HS. And I've lurked on illusion's discord and pixiv long enough to see (rarely) some really good shots that put to shame 90% of Daz games' visuals.

Even Koikatsu can look good. Just look at Hongcha, the dude's a master of his craft.

i like Daz3D and good 2D graphics the most.

I do play Honey Select games here and there but I don't like the art style that much.

Yeah HS games have usually too many boring and same looking models most of the time

Either, depends how the dev uses the models and animations. Both can be awesome or absolute shit depending on the devs.

Both the plot is primitive, which makes this games unattractive

It is much more important the work of the artist than the engine itself... See games like In the Interim or Pale Carnations. And Daz results can also range from incredible to not worth a minute of your life.
