Does anyone here hate them like me? Anytime I see a holiday update I get pissed. They are an excuse for the dev to take a break from the main game.
And because I know they were working on the shitty holiday crap I also know the main game is delayed.
Yes, I know there are a few exceptions to this but 90% is to reuse assets and ship a crap update.

there are stand alone games that come out during the holiday time i like. the holiday specials are extremely lazy excuses to delay the real meat of the game. further insulting are the devs that take forever to release said special so you get a christmas special in june.

i dont like specials because most of them are lazy and its time they should have spent on the main story/game

Exactly. Why make a holiday special when you can just get your next update ready?

Most of the "holiday special" games I played didn't add anything story wise or was just a boring re-skin (putting the Santa / Crimmeh (my drunk dad's way of saying Christmas) gear on). Save the render time, and update the game faster instead.

The only time I like holiday specials is in games that are clearly going nowhere fast, and the special has content with a girl I like that won't be in the main game for a long time if ever.

I honestly don't know why these exist except that devs must enjoy making them for them to be included in so many games.

The only time it actually bothers me is when the release of actual updates is moving at a snail's pace.

yea I'd have to agree the only way I would be fine with one is if its a part of the regular update like if an update is gonna release around Xmas anyway so the devs add a little atmosphere like a sexy santa or elves costume

Agreed. Its a massive waste of time and energy for the dev and usually takes away from the story anyway.

Nah, bro, you gotta let the artist show off and do fun stuff outside the main plot. The trouble is not the presence of holiday content, the problem is the developing time some devs take while charging monthly fees to their playerbase. Even your complain is focused on the time taken on the "real" update.

yeah in games dont play them especially if not included in main game

Since I basically only play completed games, I don't bother with non-relevant content aka any kind of specials.

Depends as some specials are very good and well worth playing but on the downside they slow down development of the main games.

They also clutter the download page when certain developers keep making them as well.

My favorite is a game's only update in a year is a holiday special also that holiday special was late and released in March. Jerking it to girls in the same stock christmas outfits if my favorite St. Patrick's Day tradition.

I think their fine and their are some gems in the coal

To be honest, I think there are as many people who don't like it as there are who like it.

I'm usually not a big fan, but I think MC christmas special was pretty nice a few years back. Other than that I usually don't care much for them as long as the main game keep producing.

If such episodes are posted separately, I never download them - there's no point in wasting my time on them. The plot of the main game is not progressing, in my opinion, the developers are wasting their efforts and resources instead of working directly on their main project.

Totally agree. The feel like a monumental waste of effort that could have been directed toward finishing the actual game. I sometimes feel that devs do this because they've run into some kind of issue in the storytelling and holiday specials offer the opportunity to slam some mindless content out to stall the fanbase.
