discussion Good photo editing software?

Wasn't sure where to ask the question. I'm trying to edit photos I have that include nudity. Nothing graphic like sex scenes. Just nude poses and things, different background swapping. I just need a tool that will be easy to use (im decent at working with layers and basic stuff) preferably free, that won't set off adult content restrictions the moment clothing starts coming off. To be clear, this isn't about illegal stuff. All 18+ and some of it is ai generations I've done.

Well, I don't know which editors have adult content restrictions, but I always like GIMP back in the day. I assume it's still around, and I doubt it would ever get restrictions.

I use Paint.NET it is ffree and does a lot of things... Also Gimp like Mime mentioned

gimp is great and you can make it more like photoshop

As others have said GMIP, but i mostly use photofiltre for most things has its lightweight and easy to use.

GIMP's only problem is its learning curve. Highly recommend it if you have the bandwidth to learn.
As a sucker who has decades of muscle memory in Photoshop: I wish I started with GIMP sooner.

Then again, it's really only leveled up to "great" in the last year or two.
It can do basically everything and the 1 or 2 things it can't do they're currently working on and will be ready by the time you are ready to learn them. (mostly non-destructive editing stuff)

I'm using gimp but using qwen edit for layer extraction.
My workflow is ask for figure on pure white background, pass to gimp, select the white with gimp, increase selection by one pixel, then color white to transparency. But the layer adds an fx marker, and export to png gives me noise in the transparent region so I had to do visible to layer to get a good layer.

Paint.net is what I use for anything quick and easy. It's perfect for like 95% of what I need. It's got layers and honestly that's enough most of the time.

GIMP is when you need real editing software. It makes my computer chug a bit though so I only break it out when there's something specific I need to do. Usually batch editing/conversions or transparency stuff.

Both are free, which is a big part of why people here are recommending them.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I used to use Photoshop back in the day and it was so much better than the shitty microsoft software that comes with windows that if you want to do any serious enhancing, changing, the moment you show skin your being flagged. Do any of these options come with any AI tech attached to them? I've noticed that some photo enhancement/editing software that you get online does a very shitty job of keeping the face even identifiable once you hit the scan button. Others that are less invasive seem to do a better job, but most flag nude content, and the ones that don't seem to only do one thing well, enhance a photo.

its not the latest version but it works, its portable & its stable, too many sites demand you seed their software to gain access to other software but i cant do that so I'm using what i can find.

Yeah, though I’ve found old software, before everyone started switching to subscription models, still works great.

Thanks everyone for the excellent recommendations. I'll give a couple of these a try and see what feels most intuitive and does what I need it to do.
